SMC Retest Trading System — Structure-Retest Confirmation Indicator for MetaTrader 5
Overview SMC Retest Trading System detects Break of Structure (BOS) and Change of Character (CHOCH) events via fractal swing analysis, then monitors price for a return to the structural level. When price enters the retest zone, a 13-pattern scanner activates to check for a qualifying candlestick confirmation. All signals are generated on completed bar closes and do not repaint.
How Detection Works Stage 1 scans each completed bar for BOS and CHOCH events. A BOS is registered when price closes beyond a prior fractal swing point in the current trend direction. A CHOCH is registered when price closes through the opposite boundary of current structure. Each event is logged with its price level, direction, and bar index. A signal mode parameter controls which event types are tracked: reversal-only, continuation-only, or both. Stage 2 monitors subsequent bars to determine whether price has returned to each active structural level. The retest zone is defined by an ATR multiplier centered on the structural price, producing a volatility-scaled band. Two expiry modes are available: Fixed expires the event after a set bar count; Adaptive adjusts the window based on ATR and volatility. Stage 3 activates only at active retests, running on approximately 10% of all bars. Thirteen candlestick formations are evaluated in the required direction: Engulfing, Kicker, Hikkake, Outside Bar, Morning Star, Evening Star, Piercing Line, Dark Cloud Cover, Tweezer, Harami Cross, Three White Soldiers, Three Black Crows, Abandoned Baby, Three Line Strike, and Three Methods. Each formation receives a quality score with proximity and recency bonuses applied. The highest-scoring formation becomes the confirmed signal.
Scoring and Signal Classification Each pattern is scored against its own formation criteria. Proximity and recency bonuses are added to the raw score. Signals below the minimum threshold are suppressed. A 4-layer pipeline then processes each signal: Layer A uses the pattern score as the base, Layer B evaluates candle proportions against surrounding context, Layer C assesses broader market conditions, and Layer D assigns one of four tiers — SOLO, CONFIRMED, STRONG, or ULTRA — based on the final confluence score. After a signal is placed, an Exit Signal Monitor scans subsequent bars for counter-evidence and escalates through CAUTION, WARNING, and CRITICAL states.
Trading Levels and Filters Each signal draws Entry, Stop Loss, and four Take Profit levels (0.5R, 1.0R, 1.5R, 2.0R) with pip distance and R:R labels. Zone fill rectangles shade risk and reward areas. Stop Loss uses either a Donchian Channel method or an ATR multiplier. A trailing stop activates after entry and locks at breakeven when the first target is reached. Signal lifecycle tracks each setup through Pending, Active, and Finished states. Five independent filters: Direction Filter (structure-aligned or manual lock), Extreme Zone Filter (overbought/oversold suppression), Stoploss Hunt Filter (swing level sweep validation), Signal Zone Filter (structural proximity), and Opposite Signal Filter (conflicting signal suppression).
Scanner, Alerts, and Presets The scanner monitors up to 150 symbols across 8 timeframes from a single chart. BOS and CHOCH labels with swing sequence identifiers appear directly on the price chart. A statistics panel displays signal count, win rate, and current signal status. Four chart themes are included; original colors restore on removal. Alert channels: desktop popup, sound, mobile push, and email. Output buffers are exposed for Expert Advisor integration via iCustom. Three presets are available: Quality tightens the retest zone and raises the quality threshold, Quantity widens the zone for broader coverage, and Custom exposes all parameters individually.
