What is TA?
ANALYSIS (from Greek analysis - decomposition) is a method of scientific research (cognition) of phenomena and processes, which is based on the study of the components, elements of the system under study.
PROgnosis (from Greek prógnōsis - foresight, prediction) is a scientifically justified hypothesis about the likely future state of an economic system and economic objects and the indicators characterizing this state.
The result of understanding the past and current situation is conclusions about the likely future state.
When saying "TA" it is hardly right NOT to mean "prediction".

As for the point, the analysis itself is technical or fundamental with a PURPOSE, even if at times unsuccessful in forecasting.
The term TA as you understand it is not just unfortunate, but totally disastrous! Firstly, it is semantically incorrect, and secondly, it puts people who understand it that way - as a prognosis - in a complete financial bind.
