PivoTrack VP
A pivot-anchored volume profile indicator for MetaTrader 5 that maps volume distribution between consecutive Pivot High and Pivot Low points, revealing where price acceptance and rejection occurred.
PivoTrack VP is a volume analysis indicator for MetaTrader 5. It automatically detects Pivot High and Pivot Low points on any chart and renders a full volume profile for each segment between them. The indicator displays the Point of Control, Value Area High, Value Area Low, and a background fill covering the value area, giving traders a clear picture of how volume was distributed across each price swing. An additional developing profile tracks the segment from the most recent pivot to the current bar in real time.
Overview
The indicator divides chart history into segments by identifying Pivot High and Pivot Low points using a configurable left/right bar length. For each completed segment, it calculates how volume was distributed across a configurable number of price rows, then draws the histogram, marks the Point of Control as the row with the highest volume, and expands outward from that row to define the Value Area. The Value Area represents the price range where a user-defined percentage of total segment volume was traded. The histogram bars are color-coded to distinguish rows inside the Value Area from those outside it. A separate developing segment is redrawn on every bar from the last confirmed pivot to the live bar, so the current structure is always visible. Alerts fire when price crosses the POC, VAH, or VAL of the developing segment.
Key Features
- Pivot-anchored segments: Volume profiles are built between consecutive Pivot High and Pivot Low points detected automatically, creating a structured view of volume distribution aligned with actual market turning points.
- Point of Control with extension: The POC row is marked on each segment and can optionally extend to the right until the last bar, until price crosses the level, or until price touches the level.
- Value Area shading: A configurable percentage of total segment volume defines the Value Area. VAH and VAL lines are drawn, and a background fill covers the zone to make it immediately visible.
- Developing profile: The segment from the last confirmed pivot to the current bar is recalculated and redrawn continuously, with alerts when price crosses the developing POC, VAH, or VAL.
- Volume Weighted Colored Bars: Candle bodies on the chart are recolored based on how each bar's volume compares to a moving average, highlighting bars where volume is significantly above or below the average.
- Flexible label options: Labels can display at pivot points, at profile highs and lows, or at value area highs and lows. Each label can optionally show the price level, percent change from the previous pivot, and cumulative segment volume.
- Profile placement and sizing: The histogram can be drawn on the left or right side of each segment, and the profile width is adjustable as a percentage of segment length.
- Tick volume and real volume support: The indicator uses tick volume by default, suitable for forex markets. Real volume can be enabled for instruments where it is available.
How to Read the Indicator
Each completed segment shows a horizontal histogram where bar length represents relative volume at that price row. The longest bar is the Point of Control, drawn as a filled rectangle in the POC color. Rows inside the Value Area use the VA volume color; rows outside use the outer volume color. The VAH and VAL are marked with horizontal lines at the top and bottom of the Value Area. The background of the full segment range and the value area background are drawn as filled rectangles behind price. The developing profile on the right side of the chart updates with every tick, showing the current structure before the next pivot is confirmed. Volume Weighted Colored Bars replace the standard candle body colors: deep green and deep blue for high-volume bullish and bearish bars respectively, lighter colors for low-volume bars, and standard green or red for bars near the average.
Recommended Use
The indicator works on any instrument and timeframe where pivot structure is meaningful. Intraday timeframes from M15 to H1 tend to produce clearly defined segments. It is suited for traders who use volume analysis to identify areas of price acceptance and rejection and want to align entries or exits with volume-based support and resistance. The indicator does not generate entry signals on its own; it is intended to complement an existing trading method.
