Description
Volatility ATR Crossover Histogram is an indicator for MetaTrader 4 that measures the expansion and contraction of volatility by comparing a fast ATR with a slow ATR. The result is displayed in a colored histogram in a separate window. Green bars indicate an increasing volatility phase, while red bars indicate decreasing volatility. It is designed as a universal filter for entry timing, trade management, and market regime detection.
How it works
The indicator calculates two ATRs with customizable periods and plots their difference. When the fast ATR is greater than the slow ATR, the histogram turns positive and green. When the fast ATR is below the slow ATR, the histogram turns negative and red. This highlights volatility regime shifts, useful for breakout trading, trend following, and mean reversion strategies.
Trading signals
Green histogram above zero suggests a market suitable for breakouts and trend continuation.
Red histogram below zero suggests consolidation phases, pullbacks, or profit-taking opportunities.
Transitions around zero help detect the beginning of new market phases.
Inputs
FastPeriod fast ATR period default 7.
SlowPeriod slow ATR period default 21.
