Why you need it
You see a strong move and you want in. Price is already far from its average, you enter late, and the market pulls back right after. Or you wait for a pullback and cannot tell a pause from the end of the trend. One late entry at the end of a stretched move can cancel several good trades.
What you get
Fabii Memory Distance Oscillator shows you, bar by bar, how far price is from the Memory Baseline, not from a classic moving average, so you stop entering moves that are already stretched.
- Distance in Average True Range (ATR) units, so you compare pairs, indices and metals on one scale.
- Four colours, bright when the distance grows and dim when it shrinks, so you see a move tiring before price turns.
- Overextension levels at plus and minus 2 ATR, so you know at a glance when price is stretched.
- Baseline direction dots on the zero line, so you see if the stretch follows the trend.
- Alerts on zone entry, zone exit and zero cross, so you do not have to watch the chart.
- Four buffers for Expert Advisors, so you can automate your own rules.
How it works
The baseline is the line of Fabii Memory Baseline with its default settings, not a classic moving average. It starts from an exponential moving average (EMA), pulls toward price when a trend stretches, holds the level it reached and leans in the trend direction. Base MA type and Base MA period only choose the average it starts from, so this is not the distance to a classic EMA 200. The oscillator divides the gap between the close and the baseline by the ATR, so 2 means two average bar ranges away, in any market. Each bar is coloured against the previous one: growing or shrinking. Values are calculated on closed bars; the live bar shows a provisional value.
How to use it
- Attach the indicator to any chart.
- Bright colour: the move expands. Dim colour: it loses strength.
- Beyond plus or minus 2, price is stretched: avoid a new entry in that direction.
- When the histogram leaves the zone and returns toward zero, with the dots still in the trend direction, look for your pullback entry.
- Turn on the alerts (popup, sound or push).
Key settings
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Base MA type | Average the Memory Baseline starts from: EMA or simple moving average (SMA) | EMA |
| Base MA period | Length of that average; higher value, slower baseline | 200 |
| Distance ATR period | ATR used for the distance; 0 = 14, as the baseline | 0 |
| Overextension level (x ATR) | Where a move counts as stretched | 2.0 |
| Alerts | Zone entry, zone exit, zero cross; popup, sound, push | Events on, channels off |
| Bars to compute (min 50) | Recent bars calculated, for speed | 1500 |
Other settings control colours, a Gold highlight of stretched bars and a fixed scale to compare markets.
Test it before you decide
No repaint: let a bar close, then check that its value in the Data Window does not change, or run it in the Strategy Tester in visual mode.
Updates are free and included. Every release is listed in the What's new section of this page.
Fabii Memory Baseline is a separate indicator that draws the line on your price chart, adds a higher timeframe baseline and alerts on crosses. Fabii Kaufman Efficiency Ratio and Fabii Volatility ATR Percentile tell you if price moves cleanly and if volatility is high. Follow my profile to be notified of new indicators.
Download it free and spot your first stretched move, then add Fabii Memory Baseline to see the line behind it.
