Torii — Intraday Advisor for USDJPY

Torii is an automatic advisor for MetaTrader 5, designed for trading the USDJPY currency pair. He trades only intraday: each position is closed on the same trading day, and nothing is transferred through the night and weekend. The ADVISER works according to his own trading day schedule and decides for himself whether the day is suitable for trading: on unfavorable days there are no transactions.

THE PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

- Each position opens immediately with a stop loss.

- No more than two trades per day and no more than one open position at a time.

- Positions are closed on the same day, before the end of the broker's trading session, so swaps are not credited.

- Without grid and averaging: positions are not added at the worst price.

- Decisions do not depend on the timeframe of the chart.

- The Expert Advisor does not load indicators and does not draw anything on the chart except the information panel.

TEST RESULTS

MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester, MetaQuotes-Demo server, USDJPY, 01.01.2020–01.10.2026, real ticks, random execution delay, 10,000 USD deposit, Lot mode = Risk % per trade, risk 1%:

- net profit of USD 40,245, profit factor 1.41;

- the maximum drawdown on funds is 14.55%;

- 1,189 transactions, all 7 years profitable, 22 profitable quarters out of 27;

- the average time to hold a position is about 7 hours, the maximum is 11.5 hours; there are no swaps.

The same period in Target drawdown mode % = 20: the deposit of 10,000 USD increased to 71,359 USD with a maximum relative drawdown of 19.25%.

INPUT PARAMETERS

Money management

- Magic number — the identifier of the Adviser's transactions. Each instance of the Advisor must have its own number on one account.

- Lot mode — a way to calculate the volume:

Fixed lot — constant volume;

Risk % per trade — the volume is calculated so that when a stop loss is triggered, the transaction loses a set portion of the balance. The risk is calculated for a typical stop of recent days: on days when the stop is smaller or larger than usual, the actual risk differs from the set one, but does not exceed it by more than 3 times;

Target drawdown% — you set the desired maximum drawdown, and the Expert Advisor itself deduces the risk for the transaction from the test results of 2020-2026. For example, 20% corresponds to a risk of 1.25% per trade. This is an estimate, not a guarantee: the future drawdown may be higher.

- Fixed lot — volume in Fixed lot mode.

- Risk per trade, % — the risk per trade in the Risk % per trade mode.

- Target drawdown, % — target drawdown in Target drawdown % mode.

Trading conditions

- Broker time zone — the time zone of the broker's server. Auto is suitable for most brokers. In the strategy tester, Auto means GMT.+2/+3 (New York closing time); if your broker uses a different time zone, specify it manually.

- Spread limit for entry, points (0 = auto) — the maximum spread for entry. 0 is an automatic price—dependent threshold: entry is postponed only if the spread is abnormally wide.

INFORMATION PANEL

In real trading, a compact panel is displayed on the chart: trading status (trading, market closed, wide spread, auto trading turned off), volume calculation mode, open position and floating result, number of transactions per day, result per day, week and month, current and maximum drawdown, spread and time zone of the broker that uses advisor. The panel is dragged with the mouse and collapsed with the button in the header, the position is remembered. The panel is not displayed in the strategy tester.

- Instrument: USDJPY. The broker's symbol name may have a different suffix, but it doesn't matter.

- Timeframe of the chart: any.

- Account type: any (with hedging or netting) — the Adviser holds no more than one position.

- Spread: the lower the better; a low spread account (ECN/Raw) is recommended.

- Deposit: from 500 USD at a risk of 1%. On a smaller account, the minimum lot will give a higher risk than the specified one (the ADVISER reports this in the journal).

- Leverage: from 1:30.

- Work 24/5 on VPS.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this a grid advisor or a martingale?

No. There is no grid or averaging, each position has its own stop loss, the volume does not increase after losses.

Why are there no deals on some days?

The ADVISOR does not trade every day: on days that are not suitable for his strategy, he skips trading. In the test, there were transactions in a little more than half of the trading days.

Are there losing trades and periods?

Yes. About half of the trades are closed at a loss, there are series of losses (up to 8 in a row in the test) and unprofitable months (26 out of 81). The result consists of a large number of transactions.

Can it be used on other instruments?

The ADVISOR is designed and tested only for USDJPY. It will run on other symbols, but the results have not been checked.
