RelicusRoad Trading Sessions is a trading sessions indicator for MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 that marks the opening time of the Tokyo, London and New York sessions with dotted vertical lines on M1, M5 and M15 charts.
Each session open is shown as a line, a small rotated name label and an event marker in the session's color, for the current day and the previous weekdays. Hovering over one shows the session name and its opening time. The indicator marks opens only: it does not shade session ranges, overlaps or closing times.
How it works
When it loads, the indicator reads the gap between your broker's server time and UTC, rounds it to whole hours and subtracts one hour. It then places the Tokyo open at 23:00 UTC, the London open at 07:00 UTC and the New York open at 12:00 UTC, converted to server time, on each weekday counting back from the current UTC date. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped.
- Tokyo: orange by default, at 23:00 UTC, which is 08:00 in Tokyo.
- London: green by default, at 07:00 UTC, the London open during summer time.
- New York: red by default, at 12:00 UTC, the New York open during summer time.
There is no daylight saving adjustment. The one-hour correction is the same all year, so the London and New York lines match the summer opening times and sit one hour early while Europe and the US are on winter time. Tokyo keeps the same local time all year, so its line stays at 08:00 Tokyo time.
What it draws
- Session open lines: dotted vertical lines in the chart background at each session open.
- Name labels: rotated text such as ---Tokyo near the bottom of the chart, using your own session names.
- Event markers: a small marker at each session open along the bottom of the chart.
- Tooltips: the session name and opening time when you hover over a line, label or marker.
- Past weekdays: five weekdays by default, counting the current UTC day.
- Short timeframes only: M1, M5 and M15 show the markers; M30, H1 and higher charts stay clear.
Reading the chart
Each dotted line is a point in time, not a price level. It shows where a session opened, so you can compare how price behaved around the Tokyo, London and New York opens across recent days. Before a session has opened, the current day's line can sit to the right of the last bar.
The session lines appear only on M1, M5 and M15 charts. On M30, H1 and any higher timeframe nothing is drawn, so switch to one of the three short timeframes to see the markers.
The broker offset and the list of days are fixed when the indicator loads. Lines for a new trading day are added once you reattach the indicator or switch the chart timeframe. If the market was closed when you attached it, the server time used for the offset can be out of date, so check the lines again once quotes are moving.
Inputs
Sessions and history:
- Past Days: how many weekdays are drawn, default 5, including the current day.
- Show Tokyo: draw the Tokyo open, on by default.
- Show London: draw the London open, on by default.
- Show New York: draw the New York open, on by default.
- Name - Tokyo, Name - London and Name - New York: the text used in each label and tooltip.
Line appearance:
- Tokyo Line Color: orange by default, used for the Tokyo line, label and marker.
- London Line Color: green by default, used for the London line, label and marker.
- New York Line Color: red by default, used for the New York line, label and marker.
- Tokyo Line Size, London Line Size and New York Line Size: line width for each session, 0 by default for the thinnest line.
Recommended use
Intended for intraday study of the session opens on forex, gold (XAUUSD), indices and crypto. Attach it to an M1, M5 or M15 chart; the defaults work without changes on brokers whose server time follows the usual summer and winter switch.
Common questions
Why do I see no session lines on my H1 chart? The session markers are drawn only on M1, M5 and M15. Switch the chart to one of those timeframes and they appear.
Does it show when each trading session closes? No. Only the open of Tokyo, London and New York is marked. Session ranges, highs and lows, overlaps and closing times are not drawn.
Can I shift the sessions by a few hours for my broker? This build has no manual hour offset. The offset is taken from the broker's server time at load, with the fixed one-hour correction described above.
Why are the London and New York lines an hour early in winter? The session times do not follow daylight saving changes, so those two lines keep the summer opening times all year.
