Alpha Pointer Indicator is a non-repainting adaptive trend indicator for MetaTrader 5. It combines a momentum-driven CCI selector with ATR-displaced bands above and below price to produce a single trend line that ratchets in one direction during bullish regimes and the opposite direction during bearish regimes. The line is mint-green when the latched direction is up and red when it is down, giving an immediate visual read on the dominant regime. Direction changes are anchored with up or down arrows placed at the swing extremes of a configurable lookback window, and a 3-event by 4-channel alert system makes the indicator trade-ready out of the box.

How It Works
The Trend Magic Engine
On every confirmed bar, the indicator computes the True Range, takes a Simple Moving Average of TR over the ATR period (default: 5) to produce an adaptive distance, and forms two candidate bands: an upper band at High + ATR x Multiplier and a lower band at Low - ATR x Multiplier . The CCI of the chosen source (default: Close, period 20) selects which band drives the trend line. When CCI is at or above zero, the engine takes the maximum of the previous trend line value and the lower band — meaning the line never falls during a bullish regime. When CCI is below zero, the engine takes the minimum of the previous trend line value and the upper band — the line never rises during a bearish regime. This ratcheting behavior is what produces the characteristic stair-step shape of the trend line.
Direction Latch
The displayed direction is decided by crossover events on closed bars. When the bar low crosses above the trend line, direction latches bullish and the line color flips to mint-green. When the bar high crosses below the trend line, direction latches bearish and the line color flips to red. Between flips, the previous direction is held — the indicator does not toggle on every CCI sign change, only on actual price interaction with the line.
Optional Smoothing
The raw trend line can be smoothed with a moving average for cleaner regime detection in noisy conditions. Five MA types are available: SMA, EMA, SMMA (RMA), WMA, and VWMA. Smoothing is disabled by default — the unsmoothed line responds faster but produces more frequent direction flips on choppy bars. With smoothing enabled at the default length (14), the line is more stable but lags by approximately the half-length of the chosen MA.
Swing-Anchored Arrows
When the latched direction changes from bear to bull, the indicator places an up arrow at the lowest low of the most recent InpSwingLookback bars (default: 21). When direction changes from bull to bear, a down arrow is placed at the highest high of the same window. This means arrows always sit at meaningful structural points rather than at the bar where the line color happened to flip. Arrows are non-repainting and are never moved or removed once drawn.
Key Features
- Single colored trend line: mint-green during bullish regimes, red during bearish regimes
- Non-repainting state machine: every value is locked at bar close and never updates intra-bar
- ATR-adaptive bands automatically scale to instrument volatility
- CCI direction selector with configurable period and source
- 7 source options: Close, Open, High, Low, HL2, HLC3, OHLC4
- 5 smoothing modes: SMA, EMA, SMMA (RMA), WMA, VWMA — toggle on or off
- Up/down arrow signals at swing extremes when the regime flips
- 3 alert events: Bullish Trend, Bearish Trend, Trend Shift (any change)
- 4 alert channels: popup, sound, email, push notification — independently toggleable

I've tested many indicators over the years, and this one definitely stands out. The setup is clean, easy to understand, and it provides useful confirmations without overwhelming the chart. As someone who has experienced multiple margin calls, I now focus more on discipline than chasing perfect entries. This indicator helps me stay patient and wait for higher-quality setups instead of trading emotionally. No indicator can guarantee profits, but this is an excellent tool to support a solid trading plan and proper risk management. Thank you to the developer for the time and effort put into creating such a practical indicator. Please keep improving and updating it. Highly recommended!
