What Makes VIDYA Different From Every Other Moving Average?

Most traders use fixed moving averages — an EMA-20 that reacts identically whether the market is in a strong trend or a choppy consolidation. That means lagging signals during trends and false signals during ranges.

VIDYA (Variable Index Dynamic Average), created by renowned technician Tushar Chande, solves this permanently.

VIDYA uses the Chande Momentum Oscillator (CMO) to dynamically weight its smoothing factor on every single bar:

• When momentum is HIGH — VIDYA reacts faster, catching trends immediately as they form

• When momentum is LOW — VIDYA smooths more aggressively, filtering out choppy noise and false signals

This is not a minor improvement. It fundamentally changes how the moving average interacts with price — giving you faster signals during strong moves and fewer false signals during consolidation. A fixed EMA simply cannot do this.

Every Signal Comes with 3 Precise Trade Levels

Entry Zone
The VIDYA band where price touches and reverses. When price pulls back to this level and the confirming candle closes, the signal fires. Calculated from the VIDYA ATR band at the default 2x multiplier.

Stop Loss
A wider ATR-based band beyond the entry zone — mathematically calculated to give the trade room to breathe while limiting your downside risk. Default 3x ATR multiplier.

Take Profit
The opposite VIDYA band — your profit target. When price reaches this band on the other side, take your profit. Clean, calculated, consistent. Default 2x ATR band on the opposite side.

Quick FAQ

Does it repaint?
No. Signals only appear after bar 1 confirms close. The indicator checks bar 2 for the VIDYA band touch and bar 1 for the confirming candle close. Once a signal appears, it never changes, moves, or disappears.

How are Entry, SL, and TP calculated?
All three levels use ATR bands around the VIDYA line. Entry = 2x ATR band. Stop Loss = 3x ATR band. Take Profit = opposite 2x ATR band. All multipliers are fully customizable.

Which timeframes are supported?
All 9 MetaTrader timeframes — M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, W1, and Monthly.
