AutoJournal MT5 is an Expert Advisor that builds a complete, professional trading journal in HTML format, running silently in the background fully automatically. Every time a trade closes, AutoJournal saves a chart screenshot, generates a trade card with all relevant metrics, and updates the journal without any manual action required.
No subscriptions. No external servers. All files are saved locally in your MQL5\Files folder and open in any browser.
Automatic Trade Capture
When a trade closes, AutoJournal locates the corresponding chart, draws the entry line in blue, the exit line in grey, the Stop Loss in dashed red, and the Take Profit in dashed green, captures the screenshot, and removes the lines. The entire process takes less than one second. Each trade card includes entry and exit price, duration, lot size, Risk-Reward ratio, P&L, swap, commission, and account percentage. Cards display both the Deal number and the Position number as used in MT5.
Multi-Symbol Support
Install the EA on each chart. Each instance processes only its own symbol, producing zero duplicates and ensuring screenshots always correspond to the correct chart without stealing focus from other open charts.
Complete History on First Run
On every startup, AutoJournal scans the account deal history and writes any trades not yet present in the journal. Entries are identified by deal number to prevent duplicates. In MT5, the history is correctly reconstructed by cross-referencing entry and exit deals using the Position ID, recovering the original opening price, Stop Loss, and Take Profit of each position.
Interactive Calendar and Equity Curve
The index.html file displays a monthly calendar with daily P&L, win rate, trade count, and best and worst day of the month. Click any day to view the full session detail. The equity curve is rebuilt automatically from all historical data on disk. Hover over any point to see the date, cumulative balance, daily net, number of trades, and win rate at that moment.
Trade Notes
Each trade card includes a text area that saves automatically to localStorage. Write your reasoning, emotions, errors, or lessons directly on the journal page without needing any external application.
How It Works
Attach the EA to any chart, one per symbol if you trade multiple pairs, and set the timeframe on which you want the screenshot to be taken. You do not need to trade on that specific window, but that is where the screenshot will be captured and at that timeframe. Trade normally and the journal updates automatically on every trade close. Open MQL5\Files\AutoJournal\index.html in your browser to view your complete journal.
Parameters
Root folder in MQL5\Files sets the name of the journal root folder, defaulting to AutoJournal. Save screenshot .png enables or disables the automatic chart screenshot per trade. 0=full history; N=last N days limits the history loaded on the initial startup.
