Your trading journal, written for you. Every closed trade is logged automatically — with a chart screenshot, full statistics and a calendar dashboard. 100% local, no subscriptions.
AutoJournal is a utility that runs silently in the background and turns your trading history into a professional HTML journal. No manual data entry, no spreadsheets, no external services: everything is generated and stored on your own computer, and it works the same whether you trade manually or with EAs.
Bonus tip: buyers of Aureon NASDAQ receive AutoJournal at no cost for 1 trade account.
What gets recorded — automatically
Each closed trade becomes a card in your journal with: entry and exit price, Stop Loss and Take Profit, lot size, duration, direction, net result including commission and swap of both the opening and the closing deal, percentage of account, Risk-Reward ratio and ticket IDs. Wins, losses and breakevens are color-coded and filterable.
Automatic chart screenshots
The moment a trade closes, AutoJournal draws the trade on the chart — entry in blue, exit in grey, SL in dashed red, TP in dashed green — captures a screenshot in under a second, and removes the markers. Every card in your journal shows exactly what the chart looked like, without you touching anything.
Interactive dashboard
The journal home is a monthly calendar: each day shows its net result, number of trades and win rate, colored green or red at a glance. Below it, a balance curve with day-by-day tooltips that starts at your initial balance and ends exactly at your current account balance. Month summary includes trades, win rate, net profit, best day and worst day. Click any day to open its full page of trade cards.
Trade notes
Every card has a notes field — write what you saw, what you did right or wrong, and it is saved automatically in your browser. Reviewing your notes next to the actual screenshot of the trade is where the real learning happens.
One-click access
A discrete "Journal" button on the chart shows you the exact location of your journal and creates a shortcut (Open AutoJournal.url) that you can copy to your desktop or pin to your taskbar — from then on, your journal is one click away, even with MetaTrader closed.
Private by design
Everything is written to plain HTML files inside your terminal's data folder. No account required, no subscription, no cloud — your trading data never leaves your computer.
Flexible modes
- Per-chart mode (default) — each instance journals only its chart's symbol, with screenshots. Install on as many charts as you want; deal tickets prevent duplicates.
- Centralized mode — one instance on a single chart journals every symbol of the account (without screenshots).
- Historical import — on startup the EA scans your account history and adds any trade not yet in the journal: full history or the last N days, you choose.
Inputs
- InpFolder — root folder of the journal inside MQL5\Files.
- InpCentralizedMode — log all symbols from one chart (no screenshots).
- InpSaveScreenshot — enable/disable chart screenshots.
- InpHistoryDays — 0 = import full history; N = last N days.
- InpShowButton — show/hide the "Journal" button on the chart.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Where is my journal stored?
In your terminal's data folder, under MQL5\Files\AutoJournal. The easiest way to find it: click the "Journal" button on the chart — it shows the exact path and creates the one-click shortcut for you.
Does it record trades opened by EAs?
Yes. AutoJournal records every closed trade of the chart's symbol (or of the whole account in centralized mode), no matter how it was opened: manually, by an EA or from mobile.
Can I test it in the Strategy Tester?
The journal is designed for live and demo charts. In the Strategy Tester, files are written to the tester's isolated sandbox folder, so you will not see your normal journal there. To evaluate it, attach it to a demo account chart with some trading history — you will see the journal built in seconds.
I trade several symbols — how should I set it up?
Either one instance per chart (each with its own screenshots), or a single instance in centralized mode that logs everything. Duplicates are impossible: every deal ticket is recorded only once.
Are my notes saved inside the HTML files?
Notes are saved by your browser (localStorage), linked to each trade. They persist between sessions on the same computer and browser.
Does it need any subscription or external service?
No. Everything is local, forever. There is nothing to pay monthly and nothing to sign up for.
