Breakout trading on Gold (XAUUSD) with a Stop Loss and Take Profit on every trade, no grid and no martingale.
Just Gold trades the breakouts of key support and resistance levels on Gold (XAUUSD). It finds the highs and lows that the price has respected, places pending stop orders right before them and lets the market choose the direction: it buys when a resistance breaks and sells when a support breaks. Several breakout strategies run side by side, each with its own exits, so no single trade decides the result.
All my EAs are listed in my MQL5 profile.
The rules are strict by design: no grid, no martingale, no averaging down and no recovery lot multiplication. Every position gets a Stop Loss and Take Profit on the broker's server the moment it opens. Entries are pending stop orders, so you can see on your chart every level the EA is watching.
How it trades
- Levels — the highs and lows that Gold has respected, kept up to date through the day.
- Entry — a buy stop just below a resistance and a sell stop just above a support, so the trade is in as the level breaks.
- False breakout filter — if the breakout fails straight away, the position is closed early with a small loss instead of waiting for the stop.
- Exits — a Stop Loss and a Take Profit on every trade, automatic breakeven and a trailing stop to protect the profit.
- No trend filter — orders are placed on both sides of the market and the breakout decides.

Trading style
The Trading style input chooses how many of the strategies are active. It changes how often the EA trades, not the risk: the risk is set by Risk per trade (% of balance). Figures from the same backtest with a fixed 0.01 lot:
- Selective (fewer trades) — about 13 trades a month, Profit Factor 2.31.
- Standard (default) — about 27 trades a month, Profit Factor 2.09.
- Active (all strategies) — about 46 trades a month, Profit Factor 1.87.
Trades come in clusters: the EA only trades on the days when the price reaches its levels, about one day in three.
Lot size and risk
- Lot size calculation — three options: "Risk % per trade (from each stop loss)" sizes every trade from its own stop loss (default), "Scale to a target drawdown" sizes the lots from the drawdown you aim for, or "Fixed lot size".
- Target drawdown (% of balance) — used with "Scale to a target drawdown", 10% by default.
- Risk per trade (% of balance) — 0.5% by default, the configuration of the backtest: what each trade loses if its stop loss is hit. Several trades can be open at once, so the total risk can be a multiple of this figure.
- Mode — rounds the calculated lot to the nearest lot, or always down so it never goes above the risk.
- Max lot size per trade (0 = no cap) — a hard limit on the size of any position. Before every order the EA also checks the free margin and skips the order if it is not enough.
- Size lots from equity instead of balance and Size lots from the highest balance reached — optional.
Prop firm protection
- Max daily loss in % (0 = off) — when the account loses this much in the day, the EA closes its trades, deletes its orders and waits for the next day. Leave a margin below your firm's limit: for a 5% rule, set 4%.
- Daily loss measured from — the balance at the start of the day, or the higher of balance and equity, depending on your firm's rule.
- New day starts at this broker hour — when the daily count resets.
News filter
The US jobs report (Non-Farm Payrolls) often causes sharp moves in Gold. With Pause around the US jobs report (NFP) the EA deletes its pending orders and closes its trades before the release and resumes after it; both times are adjustable. The dates follow the official release schedule, the broker's time zone is detected automatically, and you can add or cancel dates if the calendar changes.
Installation and use
- Attach the EA to one XAUUSD chart (any timeframe). Any broker suffix works: XAUUSD, XAUUSD.a, GOLD...
- Choose the Trading style and the Risk per trade (% of balance).
- On a prop firm account, set Max daily loss in % (0 = off).
- Enable Algo Trading.
Recommendations
- A Hedging account: several strategies can hold positions at the same time.
- A broker with low spreads on Gold and fast execution, and ideally a VPS for 24/5 operation.
- Minimum deposit — $1,500 with the Selective style, $2,500 with Standard and $4,000 with Active. With the minimum lot of 0.01, the maximum drawdown of the 2020-2026 backtest stays around 20% of those amounts. For a smaller deposit, use a cent account.
- The lot is never below 0.01. With 0.5% per trade and Gold at about $4,100, every strategy keeps its exact risk from about $18,900 with the Standard and Active styles and $3,900 with Selective; below that, the wide-stop strategies trade 0.01 lots and risk more.
- Test first on a demo account.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
The EA has not opened a trade today.
That is normal. It only trades when the price reaches one of its levels, about one day in three. You can see the pending orders it is waiting with on the chart.
Why are some pending orders far from the price?
They sit on levels from previous days or weeks. They stay there until the price reaches them, until the level changes or until the NFP filter removes them.
Does it keep positions over the weekend?
By default, yes. To close everything on Friday, turn on Close all trades on Friday and set Friday close time (broker hour).
Can I run it together with other EAs on the same account?
Yes. It only manages its own trades, identified by their magic numbers, which start at Magic number (base).
How do I backtest it?
On XAUUSD with real ticks or 1-minute OHLC and the default settings. The tester cannot detect the broker's time zone: if your broker is not on GMT+2 in winter, set Broker GMT offset in winter (backtests only) so the news filter lands at the right hour.
Trading involves risk and can result in the loss of your capital. Test the EA on a demo account before using it live. Backtest results are not real trading results and do not guarantee future performance.
