5

Crosshair for MT5 brings a TradingView-style magnet crosshair to MetaTrader 5. It snaps precisely to candle Open, High, Low and Close, to your own drawn lines and to a moving average. It also includes a live OHLC readout, a one-click ruler, compact on-chart buttons, hotkeys and crosshair sync across charts of the same symbol.

Crosshair for MT5: a magnet crosshair, bar readout and ruler in one tool

Placing an exact price in MetaTrader 5 usually means squinting at the price scale or zooming in until the candles are huge. Crosshair for MT5 solves this. As you move the mouse, the crosshair floats freely, and when you come near a candle it snaps to the exact Open, High, Low or Close. You always know precisely which level you are pointing at, and the price is shown right beside the cursor.

On top of the magnet, the indicator gives you a live OHLC readout of the hovered bar and a ruler for measuring moves in pips, percent, bars and time. You also get four compact buttons, keyboard shortcuts and crosshair sync between charts of the same symbol, which is ideal for multi-timeframe analysis.

It works on every symbol and every timeframe, including Forex, metals, indices, crypto and stocks. It does not trade, uses no DLLs and has no external dependencies.

1. The magnet crosshair

Three magnet modes

  • Off: a classic free-floating crosshair that follows the mouse exactly.
  • Weak (default): snaps only when the cursor is within the Magnet Sensitivity distance (in pixels) of a price level. Otherwise it floats freely.
  • Strong: always locks onto the nearest candle level of the hovered bar, however far away the cursor is.

Pixel-based sensitivity. The snap distance is measured in screen pixels, not in price. The magnet therefore feels exactly the same whether you are zoomed in or out, and on any instrument, from EURUSD to Gold to BTCUSD.

Neighbouring bars. When the chart is zoomed out, candles are only a pixel or two wide and hard to target. The indicator can also check up to 5 bars on each side of the cursor and pick the closest level by true on-screen distance. The crosshair lands on the candle you meant.

Smart priority. When two levels are equally close (for example Close equals High), High and Low win, because they are usually the more important levels.

Snap to your own drawings (optional, on by default):

  • Horizontal lines: snaps to the line's price.
  • Trendlines: snaps to the line's exact value at the cursor's time. Rays extending left or right are respected.
  • Rectangles: snaps to the top and bottom edges while the cursor is within the rectangle's time range.

Snapping to drawings always stays within the sensitivity radius, so your lines never "steal" the cursor from across the chart.

Snap to a moving average (optional). Choose the period, method (SMA, EMA, SMMA, LWMA) and applied price. The crosshair can then lock onto the MA exactly like it does to candle levels. This is handy for dynamic support and resistance.

Hold Ctrl to bypass. Holding Ctrl while moving the mouse temporarily disables the magnet, so you can point at any price freely. Release Ctrl and the magnet is back.

Clean prices. Free-floating prices are rounded to the symbol's tick size, so you never see prices with meaningless extra decimals.

2. Visual feedback: always know when you are snapped

  • Two looks: a free-floating style (dotted by default) and a snapped style (solid, in a highlight color). You can tell at a glance whether you are on an exact level.
  • Price and snap tag: a small label next to the crosshair shows the price and what it snapped to: O, H, L, C, Line or MA. The tag automatically flips sides near the chart edges so it is never cut off.
  • Automatic colors: leave the colors set to None and the crosshair uses your chart's foreground color. The snapped color becomes gold on dark themes and blue on light themes. You can also pick your own colors.
  • Vertical line in all windows: the vertical line runs through the main chart and every indicator subwindow (RSI, MACD, and so on), so you can line up oscillator readings with price bars.
  • Subwindow aware: when the cursor is over a subwindow, only the vertical line is shown. The horizontal line never jumps to a wrong price.
  • Future area: to the right of the last candle, the crosshair moves freely and does not jump back to the current bar.
  • No stray lines: the crosshair stays hidden until the mouse enters the chart and hides again when the cursor moves off the chart area.

3. Bar readout panel

A compact panel shows details of the bar under the cursor:

  • Symbol, timeframe, and the bar's date and time
  • Open, High, Low, Close
  • Range of the bar in pips or points
  • % change versus the previous bar's close, colored green for up and red for down (colors adjustable)

When you hover the current (forming) bar, the readout updates live with every tick. You can place the panel in any corner with custom offsets, or turn it off. When the panel and the buttons share a corner, the panel automatically sits neatly next to the buttons.

4. Ruler (measure tool)

Measure any move in two clicks:

  • Shift + Click to set the start point (or press the Ruler button or hotkey first, then just click).
  • Move the mouse: the measurement updates live.
  • Click again to set the end point. The measurement stays on the chart.
  • Click once more, press the button, or press Esc to clear it.

The ruler displays:

  • Distance in pips or points, with sign (+/−)
  • Change in percent
  • Number of bars
  • Elapsed time (for example 2d 4h, 3h 15m, 45m)

It draws a box plus a diagonal line, colored blue for up moves and red for down moves (both adjustable), with an optional filled box. Both end points use the magnet, so you can measure exactly from one candle's Low to another's High. The ruler also works into the future area to the right of the last bar.

5. On-chart buttons

Four small, flat buttons (bottom-left by default, any corner possible) give one-click control without opening the settings window:

  • Mag: cycles the magnet mode Off → Weak → Strong. The label shows the current mode.
  • Cross: shows or hides the crosshair.
  • Ruler: arms the ruler. The label tells you what your next click does: Pick start, Pick end, Clear.
  • Sync: turns crosshair sync on or off.

Active buttons are shown in the "on" color and inactive ones in the "off" color (both adjustable). Hover any button to see a tooltip with its function and hotkey.

6. Hotkeys

  • Shift + M: cycle magnet mode
  • Shift + X: crosshair on/off
  • Shift + R: arm or clear the ruler
  • Shift + S: sync on/off
  • Esc: clear the ruler
  • Ctrl (hold): move without the magnet

All letters can be changed. By default the hotkeys need Shift, so typing a symbol name on the chart never toggles anything by accident. If you prefer single keys, set the modifier to Key alone and enable Disable MT5 quick navigation.

7. Crosshair sync across charts

Open the same symbol on several timeframes (for example H4, H1 and M15) with the indicator attached to each. When you move the mouse on one chart, the crosshair appears at the same time and price on all the others, and their readout panels show the matching bar. This makes it much easier to see how a level or moment on one timeframe looks on another.

  • Only charts of the same symbol are synced.
  • When the cursor leaves the source chart, the synced crosshairs disappear too.
  • Sync can be turned on or off per chart with the button or hotkey.

8. Compatibility and quality

  • Plays nicely with MT5's native crosshair: while you hold the middle mouse button (MT5's built-in crosshair), this crosshair hides itself to avoid two crosshairs on screen. An optional setting disables the native middle-click crosshair completely.
  • Restores your chart settings: any chart option the indicator changes (native crosshair, quick navigation) is restored to its original value when you remove it.
  • Friendly to other tools: the indicator does not switch off mouse events on removal, so other indicators on the chart keep working.
  • Multiple copies allowed: all objects use unique names, so there are no conflicts with other indicators or with a second copy.
  • Clean object list: all objects are hidden from the Objects list and cannot be selected or moved accidentally.
  • Remembers your toggles: magnet mode, crosshair on/off and sync state are kept when you switch timeframe or symbol.
  • Theme aware: colors update instantly if you change the chart's color scheme.
  • Lightweight: the chart is redrawn only when the crosshair position, snap or state actually changes, so it stays smooth even on heavy charts.
  • Safe inputs: out-of-range settings are automatically limited to sensible values.

How to use

  • Attach the indicator to any chart. The crosshair appears as soon as you move the mouse over the chart.
  • Move near a candle to snap. Watch the line turn solid and the tag show O / H / L / C.
  • Hold Ctrl to point freely.
  • Shift + Click to start measuring, then click again to finish.
  • For multi-timeframe sync, attach the indicator to each chart of the same symbol (saving it in a template makes this quick).

Notes

  • This is a chart tool. It does not open, modify or close trades, and it does not generate signals.
  • Crosshair sync requires the indicator to be running on each chart that should follow.
  • MetaTrader 5 does not report when the mouse leaves the chart window. If the cursor exits very quickly, the crosshair may stay at its last position until the mouse returns.
