Graphics in DoEasy library (Part 85): Graphical object collection - adding newly created objects

Concept

We already have some object classes derived from the abstract graphical object class. In the previous article, I implemented such objects from the Lines, Channels, Gann, Fibo and Elliott groups. Here, I will add object classes of the Shapes, Arrows and Graphical Objects groups. In addition, the graphical object collection class will feature the ability to add manually created graphical objects to the collection list.


Improving library classes

First of all, I have been alerted of an annoying mistake I made in the English word "Standard". I wrote it with "t" as the final letter. Therefore, I have made corrections to all the files with the erroneous spelling. Accordingly, I have renamed the appropriate library folders. There is no point in listing all appropriate files here. You can find them by pressing Shift+Ctrl+F and selecting the necessary word, the library folder and the search in subfolders:


It is not necessary to consider the case and search for the whole word. We are simply looking for the occurrence of "standart" in the library file texts and changing the last letter.

I have already done this, so all you have to do is replace the DoEasy folder in the terminal Include directory with the one attached below.

Let's consider \MQL5\Include\DoEasy\Defines.mqh as an example. I have corrected the spelling mistake and fixed the name of the constant for the enumeration of the graphical object integer properties:

The Chart object ID (OBJ_CHART) constant was previously called "GRAPH_OBJ_PROP_OBJ_CHART_ID" making it to drop out of the list of enumeration constants describing chart object properties. Now all of them have been unified.

Any mention of the erroneous GRAPH_OBJ_PROP_OBJ_CHART_ID constant is now replaced with GRAPH_OBJ_PROP_CHART_OBJ_CHART_ID in all library files.

Different graphical objects have the same "Position of the anchor point of the graphical object" property but different enumerations for specifying a binding method for different objects. Text, Label, Bitmap and Bitmap Label require the ENUM_ANCHOR_POINT enumeration, while Arrow objects apply ENUM_ARROW_ANCHOR.

Considering this, the class of the abstract graphical object for this property features the method returning the object anchor point of int type rather than the type of one of these enumerations since we do not know which of the objects is derived from the class and which enumeration type should be returned. The descendants are to feature their own methods returning the necessary binding method enumeration type. The abstract class has a virtual method to display the binding method description

Each of the inherited classes is to have the same virtual method returning the necessary description type (or the binding method from the ENUM_ARROW_ANCHOR or ENUM_ANCHOR_POINT enumeration).

To be able to select the necessary method of displaying a binding method, add the functions for displaying value descriptions of these enumerations to the service function file \MQL5\Include\DoEasy\Services\DELib.mqh:

The constructor of each such class is to receive and save only the object properties belonging to the graphical object type described by the class. Similarly, the methods, returning the flags indicating the object support for its properties, list only the properties the graphical object supports.

If we have a close look at the structure of the classes, we will see that they are all identical but each has unique characteristics. All object properties are read and saved in class variables within the constructor. There are also objects that do not have a price or time for change in their properties but they are still set to these properties by the terminal (for example, in case of "Rectangular label", the object is set to the chart coordinates in pixels but its "price/time" parameters feature the values equal to the chart mouse click coordinates when installing the object). Such properties receive the values using the CoordsToTimePrice() private method.

Now we have the classes of all objects that are descendants of the abstract graphical objects. Now it is time to implement the ability to conduct the search of the necessary graphical objects in the list by the specified parameters.
All these objects are to be stored in the list of the graphical object collection class. The search and sorting are performed by the CSelect class in \MQL5\Include\DoEasy\Services\Select.mqh. Open the file and make the necessary improvements in it.

Adding newly created graphical objects to the collection

The logic behind defining chart objects is as follows: the objects for managing chart graphical objects are created for each open chart. Those objects track changes in the number of objects on the chart. While the number of objects is increasing, we can see the added objects, create graphical objects for them and place them to the list of newly added objects. Thus, each of the open charts is to feature its own list of newly added graphical objects.

Next, in the collection class of graphical objects, receive the list of all created graphics management objects and view the lists of newly added objects for each of them. If the chart features new graphical objects, the objects describing them are placed in the list. From that list, we receive and retrieve the pointers to each object. If the object is successfully retrieved, it is removed from the list of newly added objects of the graphical object management class and placed to the collection list right away. If placement is unsuccessful, the object is removed with an error message. Thus, we get rid of memory leaks since the object removed from the list should either be managed manually or placed into another list managed by the terminal subsystem. This is exactly what I do placing an object into the collection list and removing it if placement is unsuccessful.

The logic implies the loss of an object created as a graphical object description, while the library is able neither to inform us about adding a graphical object to the chart, nor manage it. But this is better than leaving the object in the memory.
I will probably attempt to further improve the logic of saving such objects. But to do this, I first need to find the reason for the unsuccessful placement of a removed object to the collection list. The most likely culprit is the lack of memory. In this case, any attempt to save the object will fail. Therefore, I will simply remove such an object for now.

Here, we simply loop through all chart objects looking for the graphical object maximum creation time, selecting the object by the found index (the index may not be maximum, since graphical objects are stored by name in the terminal list) and returning its name.

Since we have two types of graphical objects the library is able to create and track — standard ones and the ones created using the CCanvas class, there will be two lists in the graphical object collection — the list of standard graphical objects and the list of objects on canvas, since their properties are quite different and I believe it would be inappropriate to store the parameters in the same object property enumerations.

In the private section of the class, declare the new list — the list of all graphical elements on canvas. It is to contain all graphical objects on canvas. Since I have already declared the list of all graphical objects, I will use it to store standard graphical objects:

Here we have three more declared methods: the method returning the first free graphical object ID and the element on canvas, and the method adding the graphical object to the collection.

In the public section of the class, replace the GetList() method with two methods — the one for returning the collection list of standard graphical objects and another one for returning the collection list of graphical elements on canvas:

Here we obtain the object index having the highest ID, get the object with the same ID from the list by the detected ID and return its ID value+1. If the object is not found in the list, return 1, since there are no objects in the collection. The ID of 1 is assigned to the first one.

To perform the test, let's use the EA from the previous article and save it to \MQL5\Experts\TestDoEasy\Part85\ as TestDoEasyPart85.mq5. There will be no changes in the EA.
Simply compile the EA, launch it on the chart and add different graphical objects to different charts. Short journal messages about their creation will be displayed in the journal:


It is likely that the data may be insufficient to briefly describe a newly added graphical object.
Later, I will slightly expand the information displayed in the short descriptions of different graphical objects.
