Chaos MA Signal is an indicator that looks at the market differently from everything else. It does not draw yet another line over the price: it launches 30 virtual trading systems based on moving averages right on your chart, keeps an honest score of their trades and catches a rare moment — the reversal of the system that has been losing longer than all the others. Where the eye sees a chaos of thirty lines, the indicator finds the single "unluckiest" one and places an arrow at the very moment it changes direction. There is nothing like it in the standard set of the terminal.
- A signal appears only on a closed bar and never changes afterwards (no repainting).
- Works on any instrument and any timeframe.
- Every arrow comes with a dot and a tooltip: which average was selected, how many losses in a row it has collected and how its last trade ended.
- Alerts in the terminal, on your phone and by email — including preliminary ones, while the bar is still open.
- Use it in your own Expert Advisors without any restrictions: arrows are buffers 0 and 1, the losing series of all the averages are buffers 2–31.
The idea. I start from a simple observation: any moving average strategy earns in a trend and loses in a flat market. While the market is "not its own", the average reverses again and again and collects loss after loss. But the market never stands still, and a flat does not last forever: the longer the losing streak, the longer this average has been waiting for its move. Chaos MA Signal turns this observation into a precise, verifiable signal: it shows the next reversal of exactly that average which is currently in the longest series of losses among all thirty. You are no longer trading a line on a chart — you are trading the statistics of thirty strategies at once.
How it works:
- The indicator builds 30 moving averages. You set the period of the first one and the step between them — by default these are 3, 6, 9 … 90.
- Each average trades virtually on its own reversals: turned up — buy, turned down — sell. Entry and exit are at the open price of the next bar, with no looking into the future.
- A counter of consecutive losing trades is kept for each average. A profitable trade resets it to zero.
- When the average that currently has the longest losing series of all reverses, an arrow and a dot appear on the chart.
What you see on the chart:
- An arrow in the direction of the new trade of the selected average.
- A dot with a tooltip. Hover over it and you will see the direction and the entry price, the period of the selected average, the length of its losing series and the result of its last trade in points. For example: "Buy at 2650.12. MA 12: losses in a row 3, last trade -450 pt". Tooltips are shown in the terminal language (English, Russian, Chinese); dots are placed on the last 5000 bars, arrows — on the whole history.
- The Data Window with the current losing series of each of the thirty averages: one glance is enough to see which periods are in tune with the market right now and which ones it has been ignoring for a long time.
- The averages themselves — optionally: thirty lines colored by direction. They are hidden by default to keep the chart clean.
Why it is hard to put down. Open the history of any instrument and scroll back: the arrows do not repaint, the result of every past trade is written in the tooltip — the picture is exactly what it was at that moment. Very soon you start noticing things you have never seen before: how the market "punishes" fast and slow averages in turn, how losing series pile up in a flat and how that flat ends, how the character of an instrument changes from timeframe to timeframe. Chaos MA Signal is both a signal indicator and a research laboratory on a single chart.
25 smoothing algorithms (SMA, EMA, SMMA, LWMA, JJMA, JurX, ParMA, T3, VIDYA, AMA, FATL, ALMA, HMA, DEMA, TEMA, ZeroLagEMA, SineWMA, TriMA, TriMAgen, LSMA, ILRS, IE/2, Median, GeoMean, EWMA) and 13 price options: here every algorithm turns into thirty competing strategies, each with its own character of signals. And if you prefer the classics — the crossover of a fast and a slow moving average — grab my free indicator Moving Average Cross Signal: it draws arrows at the crossover points and sends alerts to the terminal, your phone and your email. It is convenient to keep it on the same chart as Chaos MA Signal and compare the classic signal with the signal born from a losing series.
Indicator parameters:
- MA Mode — the smoothing algorithm of the averages, 25 options.
- MA Price — the price the calculation is based on, 13 options.
- MA Phase — a parameter within -100 … +100 for the algorithms that need a second tuning parameter (JJMA, T3, VIDYA, AMA, ALMA and others).
- First MA period — the period of the first, fastest average.
- MA period step — the period step: each next average is longer than the previous one by this value. With 3 and 3 you get periods from 3 to 90, with 5 and 5 — from 5 to 150.
- Min losing series for arrow — the minimum losing series for a signal. At 0 all signals are shown; the higher the value, the rarer and more selective the arrows.
- Show moving averages — show all thirty averages on the chart.
Alert settings. Each channel is enabled separately and has three levels: Off — disabled, Signal only — only the final signal on a closed bar, Signal + preliminary — a preliminary signal also arrives while the bar has not closed yet: the indicator sees that an arrow will appear if the bar closes at the current price. This gives you time to get to your computer and prepare for the trade. Each message is sent only once per bar — no duplicates.
- Send Email — sending the signal by email.
- Alert — pop-up window and sound in the terminal.
- Push Notification — notification to the mobile terminal.
- Name sound file — the name of the sound file for the alert.
Tips for use. Start with the default settings and see how the indicator behaves on your instrument. Then raise the minimum series to 3–5: there will be fewer signals, and only those reversals will remain that were preceded by a truly long run of failures. A small period and step give frequent signals for active trading, large ones — rare signals for medium-term trading. The arrow can be used as a standalone signal, as a filter for your own system or as a reason to take a closer look at the market. Like any indicator, Chaos MA Signal does not replace risk management — but it gives you a view of the market that the usual set of tools does not.
Using it in Expert Advisors. Buffers: 0 and 1 — arrows up and down (the arrow price, 0 — no signal), 2–31 — the current series of losing trades of each of the thirty averages, from the fastest to the slowest. Values on closed bars do not change.
