Pivot Point Shift Supertrend MT4

The Pivot Point Shift Supertrend Indicator is a non-repainting trailing supertrend system for MetaTrader 4. Unlike classic SuperTrend which anchors its bands to the moving  hl2  midpoint, this indicator anchors them to a weighted average of confirmed pivot points. The result is a trailing line that holds steady through normal volatility and only flips when market structure genuinely shifts.

The indicator detects pivot highs and pivot lows using a configurable lookback (default: 2 bars on each side), updates a smoothed center line with a 2:1 weighted formula, places ATR-multiplied bands above and below that center, and applies the standard SuperTrend trailing rule to produce a directional supertrend line. Trend flips fire Buy and Sell signals as text labels on the chart and as alerts via popup, sound, push notification, or email.

How It WorksPivot Detection. A pivot high at bar N is confirmed when its high exceeds the highs of  Pivot Point Period  bars on each side; a pivot low is the mirror. Default  Pivot Point Period = 2  requires two bars of confirmation on the right, which means a pivot at bar N cannot be detected until bar N+2. This confirmation requirement is the mathematical guarantee that pivots never repaint.

Weighted Center Update. When a new pivot is confirmed, the indicator updates an internal  center  value:  new_center = (old_center * 2 + new_pivot) / 3 . New pivots blend gradually into the existing structure rather than replacing it abruptly. The result is a smooth structural midpoint that adapts to changing market structure without losing memory of older pivots.

ATR Bands and Trailing Rule. Upper and lower bands are placed at  Up = center - ATR_Factor * ATR  and  Dn = center + ATR_Factor * ATR . The trailing rule (standard SuperTrend) ensures that the lower band can only rise while price is above it, and the upper band can only fall while price is below it. The line displayed on the chart is the active band (lower in up trends, upper in down trends), colored lime or red.

Trend Flip Signals. When the close crosses the trailing lower band downward, the trend flips from  +1  to  -1  and a Sell label is printed. When the close crosses the trailing upper band upward, the trend flips from  -1  to  +1  and a Buy label is printed. Each flip also fires an alert through whichever channels are configured.

Recommended Configurations

Conservative (Position / Daily charts): Increase  Pivot Point Period  to 5 and  ATR Factor  to 4.5 for fewer, higher-significance flips.

Default (Swing / H1-H4): Keep all defaults. Pivot Period 2, ATR Factor 3.0, ATR Period 10. Original Pine Script settings.

Aggressive (Scalping / M5-M15): Reduce  ATR Factor  to 2.0 and  ATR Period  to 7 for tighter bands and more frequent flips.
