Northline Algo — clean, honest tools for MetaTrader 5.
Northline Algo was founded by a trader with more than 15 years of market experience. We build the tools we want to use ourselves.
We design indicators and Expert Advisors from scratch in MQL5, with three rules: - Version: 1.0
- Activations: 10
What the backtest report doesn't show. EA Risk X-Ray audits the hidden risk of any Expert Advisor, on your own account or on a Strategy Tester report. It rebuilds the floating loss of every open position minute by minute, detects martingale and grid behaviour, replays the trades 5,000 times, and gives one clear verdict: low, moderate or high hidden risk.
Overview
Most statistics, including the drawdown of the Strategy Tester report and of most account monitors, are computed when trades close. A grid or martingale EA can hold a deep floating loss for weeks, close everything in profit, and show a smooth balance curve. The risk was real, it just never appeared in the numbers.
EA Risk X-Ray measures it. For each group of positions opened together (a basket), it replays the M1 price history and records the worst floating loss reached while the positions were open. On a grid EA audited for this product, the report showed a 1.0% drawdown; the open positions had gone down 7.2%.
The tool does not trade on a live chart and makes no forecast. It measures how an EA behaved.
What you get
- Latent drawdown (open positions included) next to the closed-trade drawdown, and their ratio
- Behaviour detection: martingale (lot increase ratio and share of baskets), grid (positions added at a worse price, maximum depth), trades opened without a stop-loss, losing positions held longer than winners
- Monte Carlo: the baskets are replayed 5,000 times in a random order; drawdown percentiles (P50, P95, P99) and the chance of crossing your loss threshold (default 30%)
- Open risk on a live account: distance to the margin call and to your loss threshold, in points and in ATR, also if the EA keeps adding grid levels
- One verdict per EA (per magic number), with the reason in numbers
- A panel on the chart, an HTML report you can open on a computer or a phone, and a CSV file of every basket
Two sources
- Your account: the trade history of the account, one line per magic number (or a single magic number), over the last N days or the whole history. On a live chart the analysis is refreshed when new trades arrive, and the open risk every minute.
- A Strategy Tester report: run a backtest of any EA, save the report as HTML (right-click on the Backtest tab, Report, HTML), copy it into MQL5\Files\XRay and enter its file name. This is how you can audit the demo of an EA before you buy it.
How to use it
- Open any chart and attach EA Risk X-Ray (it is an Expert Advisor; it only reads and never places a trade on a live chart).
- Choose the source: Account history, or Strategy Tester report with the file name.
- Press OK. The verdict is on the panel after a few seconds; the report is saved in File > Open Data Folder > MQL5 > Files > XRay.
Parameters
- Source: account history or tester report; magic number ("all" = one line per EA); symbol filter; period in days (0 = whole history); report file name; symbol map when your broker uses other symbol names (EURUSD=EURUSD.r;XAUUSD=GOLD)
- Analysis: loss threshold for the Monte Carlo (%), martingale ratio (default 1.3), spread in points (-1 = average from history)
- Display: panel position
Good to know
- The latent drawdown needs the M1 history of the traded symbols, which MT5 downloads from your broker. If it cannot be loaded for some baskets, they are counted with their closed result only and the verdict says so.
- Deposits and withdrawals are not part of the drawdown.
- The tester report can come from MT5 in any language: the deals table is recognised by its column names or, failing that, by the fixed order of its columns. It must be saved as HTML.
- The results describe the past on the audited period. A low verdict is not a promise of future results: it means the hidden risk measured on that history was low.
About the Strategy Tester and the demo
The Strategy Tester has no account history to audit, so in the tester (and in the free demo) X-Ray opens its own small demonstration grid (0.01 lot, up to 4 levels) and audits it live on the panel. Run it in visual mode to watch the panel fill in.
EA Risk X-Ray is made by Northline Algo.
