MA Cross Signal Pro
- Indicators
- Version: 3.0
MA Cross Signal Pro is a free indicator for MetaTrader 5. It draws five moving averages on the chart and marks the points where the fast and the slow moving average cross. Optional filters and alerts are included.
How the indicator works
The first two moving averages are the fast and the slow line. A buy arrow is drawn when the fast line crosses above the slow line. A sell arrow is drawn when the fast line crosses below the slow line.
The other three moving averages show the medium-term and long-term direction of the market. They can be used as a filter, so that arrows are only shown in the direction of that trend.
By default all five lines are exponential moving averages with the periods 9, 21, 50, 100 and 200.
Features
- Five moving averages. Each line has its own calculation method, period, colour and display setting.
- Sixteen calculation methods: Simple, Exponential, Smoothed, Linear Weighted, Double Exponential, Triple Exponential, Hull, Zero Lag Exponential, Triangular, Tillson T3, Arnaud Legoux, Linear Regression, Quadratic Regression, Kaufman Adaptive, Variable Index Dynamic and McGinley Dynamic.
- Buy and sell arrows at each crossover.
- Preliminary signals on the current bar and confirmed signals on closed bars.
- Trend filter with four options: third line above or below the fourth line, price above or below the fifth line, price above or below the third, fourth and fifth lines, or all five lines in order.
- Channel filter based on Average True Range or standard deviation. A wider channel requires a larger distance between the lines before a signal is shown. This can reduce the number of signals in a sideways market.
- Line colours by trend, by slope or in a single colour.
- Optional statistics of past signals on the chart, in points or percent. These are hypothetical values calculated on historical bars and are not real trading results.
- Alerts with a message window and sound, push notifications to the mobile terminal and email. Each signal is sent once per bar.
Signal behaviour on the current bar
Signals on closed bars do not change. On the current bar a signal can appear or disappear until the bar closes. Set the Shift parameter to 1 to use closed bars only.

Use in Expert Advisors
All values can be read with the iCustom function. Buffer 0 is the fast line, 2 is the slow line, 4, 6 and 8 are the three trend lines, 10 and 11 are the upper and lower channel lines, 12 is the buy signal and 13 is the sell signal. Buffer 14 holds the signal state: 1 after a buy signal, -1 after a sell signal and 0 before the first signal.
Notes
Push notifications and email must first be set up in the terminal under Tools, Options.
The indicator can be used on all symbols and timeframes. It is an analysis tool and does not guarantee any trading result. Test the settings on your symbol and timeframe before using them in live trading.
