Tired of gold robots? Almost every Expert Advisor in this Market trades XAUUSD. A shelf full of them is not a portfolio: it is a single position repeated multiple times, and all of them suffer drawdowns on the very same day. Maori trades AUDCAD: a calm, range-bound cross pair with different underlying drivers, another trading session, and a completely different style of price action. That is the true diversification an account loaded with gold genuinely needs.
Mean reversion on a single cross pair. Hard stop on every position, no grid, and no martingale.
Price spends most of its life near its long-term average and only occasionally strays far from it. Maori does nothing until that distance becomes unusual for this specific instrument — the deviation is measured in units of its recent dispersion, not in pips — and only then takes the opposite side.
Because both the entry threshold and the exit are expressed in this dispersion rather than a fixed number of points, the settings behave identically in quiet and volatile markets, and do not degrade as market volatility shifts over the years.
A single rule, evaluated across multiple timeframes
The rule is evaluated across several timeframes simultaneously. Each timeframe stream is completely independent: it calculates its own dispersion, defines its target and stop based on that dispersion, and manages its own position slot. Positions do not queue behind one another and none acts as an add-on to an open trade.
This is neither a grid nor a pyramid. A secondary timeframe does not increase the stake on an H1 signal — it executes its own trades, at its own times, with its own independent risk.
The EA is delivered in the Balanced preset. Attach it to an AUDCAD H1 chart, leave default settings, and it will run the configuration shown below.
Includes two presets
| Balanced | Active | |
| Timeframes | H1 + M30 + H4 | H1 + M30 + H4 + M15 |
| Trades | 1,709 | 3,501 |
| Net profit on 10,000 | +11,963 | +10,321 |
| Profit factor | 1.50 | 1.41 |
| Max equity drawdown | 6.55% | 6.17% |
| Median trade duration | 13.3 h | ~7 h |
Balanced is compiled as the default configuration. Active is available via a .set file.
What it does and what it does not do
-
Hard stop loss on every position, placed immediately at entry.
-
Fixed target, ensuring each trade aims for the same relative distance in its own dispersion. Inconsistent trade targets are what make equity curves erratic.
-
No grid, no martingale, no averaging down. Volume is never added to a losing position.
-
Sizing is derived from account balance, never from the stop distance, preventing quiet market conditions from silently generating oversized positions.
-
Each additional timeframe stream trades a fraction of the base size (0.10–0.15 in presets), reflecting the slimmer edge found on faster charts.

Minimum deposit — specific to each preset
| Preset | Minimum | Performance with minimum deposit |
| Balanced | 3,000 | 1,709 trades, +110.5%, 5.96% drawdown |
| Active | 5,000 | 3,501 trades, +100.8%, 5.82% drawdown |
Below the minimum, performance does not just scale down — it degrades. Additional timeframes trade a fraction of the base lot size. When that fraction rounds below the broker's minimum lot, those streams either fail to execute entirely or are forced up to the broker minimum, skewing risk on a small balance. Actual test: Balanced with 1,000 executes only 498 trades instead of 1,709 (secondary streams never trigger), while with 2,000 it takes 1,522 trades with a 7.83% drawdown, noticeably worse than the 5.96% achieved at 3,000. Use the deposit specified for the preset.
The capital threshold is determined by your broker's lot step, not the strategy. The figures above assume a standard 0.01 minimum lot. The EA reads the broker's minimum volume automatically: where the minimum lot is 0.001 (common on micro and cent accounts), all thresholds scale down tenfold, allowing Balanced to run from approximately 300. The deposit requirement exists not for margin coverage (holding a position requires only ~9 USD per 0.01 lot), but to preserve the 0.15 size ratio between timeframes.
First year in isolation, starting from fresh 10,000: Balanced delivered +15.5% with a 5.26% drawdown. A drawdown occurring late in a multi-year run lands on an enlarged balance, making it appear artificially milder than what a brand-new account experiences.
Honest notes
-
In Balanced, the top 10% of trades generate 130% of total profit; in Active, 241%. This means the remaining 90% of trades collectively result in a small net loss.
-
Active trades profit for frequency, not for higher risk. It executes twice as many trades as Balanced (3,501 vs. 1,709) for ~14% less profit, with equivalent drawdown (6.17% vs. 6.55%). Choose it if you prefer smaller, more frequent trades, not if you are expecting higher returns.
-
The typical trade is a small win. Losses are less frequent but individually about three times larger than the average win. A series of modest gains followed by a distinct loss is the intended operational rhythm of this strategy, not a bug.
-
Past performance is no guarantee of future results. No profit guarantees are made.
-
Always backtest with your own broker's data first: spreads and swaps differ across brokers, and both impact a strategy that holds positions for several hours.
-
Settings are optimized as a unified system on AUDCAD, on an H1 chart. Additional timeframes are queried internally; do not change the chart timeframe.
Default settings
| Instrument | AUDCAD |
| Minimum deposit | 3,000 / 5,000 (0.01 lot) · ~300 / ~500 (0.001 lot) |
| Chart timeframe | H1 — strict requirement, not a recommendation |
| Lot size | 0.03 per 1,000 balance |
| Account type | Any; EA automatically detects broker volume step and stop levels |
The EA accepts a comma-separated list of instruments and a symbol suffix. If expanding the symbol list, choose cross pairs that share no common currencies: pairs with shared currencies tend to trigger simultaneously, behaving like a single enlarged position rather than independent trades.
