DiNapoli DMAs (Displaced Moving Averages)
The DiNapoli DMAs indicator brings the world-renowned Displaced Moving Averages, popularized by legendary trader Joe DiNapoli, to MetaTrader 5. Unlike conventional moving averages, the forward displacement (shift) helps filter out market noise and reduce whipsaws, allowing traders to identify trends and support/resistance levels with much higher clarity.
This indicator plots the three classic DiNapoli combinations:
-
3x3: 3-period Simple Moving Average, displaced 3 periods forward.
-
7x5: 7-period Simple Moving Average, displaced 5 periods forward.
-
25x5: 25-period Simple Moving Average, displaced 5 periods forward.
Key Benefits
-
Trend Identification: Clearly see the market direction without the lag found in traditional averages.
-
Dynamic Support & Resistance: The lines act as "bounce" zones for price action.
-
Noise Filter: Excellent for staying out of choppy or sideways markets.
-
Fully Customizable: Easily adjust periods, displacements, and colors to fit your specific strategy.
User Manual
1. Installation and Setup
-
After purchasing/downloading, drag the indicator from the Navigator window onto your chart.
-
In the Inputs tab, you can enable or disable each of the three averages individually using the show_dma toggles.
-
Customize colors and line widths in the Colors tab to match your chart template (Dark or Light mode).
2. Common Strategies
-
Price Crosses: When the price crosses the DMA 3x3, it often signals an imminent entry point.
-
DMA Support: In strong trends, the price tends to respect the 3x3 or 7x5 DMA as support/resistance before continuing the move.
-
Trend Confirmation: Use the 25x5 DMA as your long-term filter—only take trades in the direction it is pointing.
3. Technical Parameters
-
DMA Length: The number of bars used for the average calculation.
-
Displacement: How many bars the line is projected forward on the chart.
-
Show DMA: Toggle the visibility of a specific line.
