Coiled Spring Zones
- Indicators
- Version: 2.0
- Activations: 5
Coiled Spring Zones is an indicator for MetaTrader 5 that marks flat and consolidation ranges on the chart. A zone is a compact area where price stays inside a narrow band. Such areas often precede a period of higher activity.
What to expect
After a zone ends, price often starts moving more actively. It can be a calm move or a sharp impulse. The indicator does not predict direction and is not a buy or sell signal.
Main features
- Works on different symbols and timeframes with the same settings.
- Closed zones are not repainted; the current open zone may extend or widen until it ends.
- Closed and open zones are shown in different colors.
- Optional band edges (low and high lines) for each zone.
- The midpoints of zones often act as support or resistance levels.
- Three sensitivity presets: Low, Medium, High.
- Optional alerts on a new zone and on an exit from the open zone.
- All graphical objects are removed when the indicator is detached.
- No DLL, no WebRequest, no external files.
How to use
1. Attach the indicator to any symbol and timeframe.
2. Choose a sensitivity preset. Medium is a good start; Low gives fewer and cleaner zones.
3. Watch the open zone. Its band is the current consolidation. A move outside the band marks the transition to expanding activity.
4. Optionally enable alerts.
Tips
- Low for swing and positional work, High for more granular intraday use.
- On lower timeframes, limit the history to speed up recalculation.
- The band edges can be used as reference levels inside a consolidation.
