1. Overview
JoSab Institutional SD is a fully automated Expert Advisor built around institutional supply-and-demand price-action theory, the same zone-based logic used by professional trading desks to identify high-probability areas of imbalance before price reacts.
Rather than relying on lagging indicators, the EA scans live price structure to detect consolidation, validates the strength of the move that follows, and maps out demand and supply zones directly on the chart. Trades are only triggered when price genuinely re-enters a valid zone not on a breakout past it, enforcing entries that are disciplined and structurally sound rather than reactive.
Every position is managed end-to-end: staged profit-taking, breakeven protection, and configurable trailing logic all run automatically once a trade is live, so the strategy executes with the same consistency a professional desk would demand, without manual intervention.
Optimized for: XAUUSD (Gold) Recommended timeframe: H3 (primary), H4 (alternative)
The EA will run on other symbols and timeframes, but its zone-detection thresholds are tuned specifically for Gold's volatility profile on the H3/H4 structure, results elsewhere will vary and should be independently backtested before live use.
2. Core Trading Logic
2.1 Zone Detection
The EA identifies periods of price consolidation over a configurable number of bars, then confirms the zone once price has moved a minimum distance away from it the hallmark of a genuine imbalance rather than noise. Zones extend forward on the chart for a configurable number of bars, and are tracked through their full lifecycle: untested, tested, broken, or expired.
2.2 Impulse Validation
An optional impulse-strength filter checks the move that follows a potential zone against a configurable multiplier of average recent bar range. Zones that don't show genuine impulsive departure are discarded, filtering out weak or false consolidations before they ever become tradeable.
2.3 Entry Discipline
Entries are only taken when price is genuinely trading inside the validated zone boundaries at the moment of execution never on a breakout through or past the zone. This is a deliberately stricter, more conservative approach than simple breakout-based zone strategies.
2.4 Zone Trading Modes
Highly configurable zone re-use behavior, including:
- Trade each zone once, or allow limited repeat trades per zone (with a configurable cap)
- Treat a "broken" zone as invalidated, or allow continued trading through a break
- Optional zone-size filtering (minimum/maximum, in points) to exclude zones too tight or too wide to trade reliably
- Optional consolidation-quality filter comparing the zone's base range against the average bar range
- Optional trend-confirmation gate before entries are permitted
- Trade direction control: both directions, demand-only, or supply-only
3. Trade & Risk Management
3.1 Standard Stop Loss / Take Profit
Every trade opens with a defined stop loss and take profit, calculated directly from the zone boundary and configurable point distances no trade is ever sent without protective risk parameters attached.
3.2 Trailing Stop
An optional trailing stop activates once a trade reaches a configurable minimum profit threshold, then trails the position by a configurable point distance to lock in gains as price continues favorably.
3.3 TP1 → Breakeven → TP2 Staged Exit
A signature risk-management feature: positions can be split into two legs with independent lot sizes and target distances. The first leg (TP1) closes early to bank partial profit; once it closes, the second leg's stop loss is automatically moved to breakeven (with a configurable buffer to absorb spread/commission), fully removing risk from the trade while the second leg (TP2) continues running toward a further target.
3.4 Instance 2 — Breakeven-Lock Mode
An alternate management mode for the TP2 leg: once breakeven-locked, the position is held at breakeven and never trailed further a more conservative variant for traders who prioritize capital protection over maximizing trailing upside on the runner leg.
4. Visual Zone Display
All detected zones are drawn directly on the chart with fully customizable colors for each state untested demand, untested supply, tested demand, tested supply, and broken zones along with configurable text labels. Broken and expired zones can optionally be auto-removed from the chart to keep the workspace clean, or retained for visual backtesting review.
5. On-Chart Dashboard
A live on-chart dashboard displays real-time EA status and can be configured to show always, only while a trade is open, or be switched off entirely. Position and persistence behavior are fully configurable, allowing traders to keep their charts clean or keep full visibility at all times.
The dashboard displays:
Title — product name header
Zone count — a live count of currently active demand and supply zones on the chart
Open positions count — total number of trades currently open by this EA on the symbol
A row per open trade, showing direction (Buy/Sell), lot size, current stop loss price and its distance from entry in points, and the exact monetary amount at risk if that stop loss is hit — calculated precisely for the symbol's real contract size and tick value. Once a trade's stop loss has been moved to breakeven-lock and sits in profit territory, the row switches from showing risk to showing the amount locked in, since hitting that stop would bank a gain rather than a loss. The dashboard displays up to 8 open-trade rows at once; any additional open trades are summarized as a "+N more open" line rather than hidden.

6. Requirements
- Platform: MetaTrader 5 (build supporting standard CTrade and cryptographic hashing functions)
- Recommended symbol: XAUUSD
- Recommended timeframe: H3 or H4
- Account type: Hedging account required. The TP1 → Breakeven → TP2 staged-exit feature opens two independent positions on the same symbol simultaneously (one per leg); this is not supported on Netting accounts and the feature will not function correctly if run on one.
- Expert Advisor category: Trend / Price Action (institutional supply & demand)
- Ensure your broker's minimum stop level and freeze level are compatible with the configured SL/TP distances

Important: This EA is optimized for the XAUUSD pair only, on the H3 timeframe only. All backtesting and live trading should be conducted under these conditions for results consistent with the EA's design.
Backtesting From January 2026 Onward
- Modeling mode: "Every Tick based on real ticks" — this provides the most historically accurate simulation of real market conditions and should always be used.
- Test period: January 2026 through the current date.
- Inputs: Use the EA's default settings in full (see the Default Inputs Reference table below) — no changes required for this period.
- Lot sizing: Scale lot size to account capital as described in the Lot Sizing Guide below. Trade responsibly and always match position size to account equity.
Backtesting for 2025 and Earlier
For historical backtesting on 2025 data or earlier, override only the following four inputs; leave everything else at default:

Broker Point/Pip Variance
Point and pip structure for stop loss/take profit distances is not standardized across brokers. If your broker's SL/TP structure differs noticeably from Exness's convention, adjust as follows for best results:
- Reduce TP1 leg distance to 500–1,000 points
- Keep TP2 leg distance proportionally higher at all times relative to TP1
Lot Sizing Guide
Minimum recommended capital is $200 USD, using 0.01 lots for both the TP1 and TP2 legs at that account size. Scale lot size proportionally to your account equity using the formula below:

Always size positions to match your account capacity. Using a lot size beyond what your account can reasonably support — even with the EA's built-in risk safeguards — can result in significant losses. You are free to use a custom lot size, but this is done at your own risk; trade wisely and avoid over-leveraging.

Only the four inputs listed in the "Backtesting for 2025 and Earlier" table above should be changed for legacy-period testing. All other inputs should remain at the defaults shown here for both 2026-onward and legacy backtesting.

You are free to choose your own lot size rather than following the sizing guide above, but doing so is entirely at your own discretion and risk. While this EA includes a built-in risk-tolerance mechanism designed to help limit heavy drawdowns, no safeguard can fully protect against a lot size that exceeds what your account capital can reasonably support.
