Nakane USDJPY Gotobi trades one well-known pattern of the Tokyo market. On gotobi days (Japanese settlement days: the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and the last business day of the month), USDJPY has tended to rise into the Tokyo fixing at 9:55 JST and to give part of it back afterwards. The EA buys at 07:30 JST, closes at the fixing, then sells until 10:30 JST. It trades only on those mornings.
No grid, no martingale, no averaging. One position at a time, and every trade has a stop-loss. No external services, no DLL: the Strategy Tester runs exactly the same logic as live trading.
How it works
- Gotobi days are calculated inside the EA, including weekends, Japanese public holidays (with substitute holidays) and the year-end bank holidays. When a settlement day falls on a holiday, the previous business day is used.
- 07:30 JST: buy. 09:55 JST (Tokyo fixing): close the buy and sell. 10:30 JST: close the sell. All times are converted to your broker's server time automatically.
- Stop-loss on every trade: 2.5 x ATR(H1). There is no take-profit; trades are closed by time.
- A trade is skipped when the hour before entry was unusually volatile (for example an intervention) or when the spread is too wide.
Protection
- Risk per trade as a percentage of equity, measured to the stop-loss (or a fixed lot).
- Daily loss limit based on equity.
- Checks before every order: trading session, stop level, freeze level, free margin and lot step. No order is sent while the market is closed.
- On-chart panel with Tokyo time, the next gotobi day, the current state and the last action. The buy and sell windows are shaded on the chart.
Recommended
- Symbol: USDJPY. Any chart timeframe.
- Account: hedging or netting, low spread. Use a unique Magic number for each chart.
- Deposit: about 300 USD or more for 1% risk with 0.01 lot.
Backtest (Strategy Tester, see the screenshots)
USDJPY, January 2015 to October 2026, 1-minute OHLC, IC Markets demo data, 1% risk per trade, 10,000 USD start, commission and swap included. The rules and settings were fixed using 2015-2021 only; 2022-2026 was not used for design (out-of-sample).
Whole period: 1,524 trades, profit factor 1.24, net profit +48% of the starting balance (not compounded), maximum drawdown 6.7%.
Out-of-sample 2022-2026: 586 trades, profit factor 1.28, maximum drawdown 6.6%.
Control test: the same trades on non-gotobi days gave a profit factor of 0.81 (2015-2021), so the result is tied to the gotobi calendar.
These are backtest results. Your results will differ with your broker's prices, spread, commission and execution. Past results do not guarantee future results.
Things to know
- About six gotobi mornings per month, two trades each. Nothing happens on other days.
- Short holding times: 2 hours 25 minutes for the buy, 35 minutes for the sell.
- The broker's GMT offset is detected automatically in live trading. In the Strategy Tester it is estimated from the weekly close; if your broker uses an unusual server time, set GMTOffsetHours.
- Some years were negative in the backtest (2015 and 2025). This is a small statistical edge, not a guarantee.
Inputs
- RiskPercent (1.0): risk per trade in % of equity, measured to the stop-loss. 0 = use FixedLot.
- FixedLot (0.0): fixed lot, used only when RiskPercent = 0.
- DailyLossLimit (3.0): stop trading for the day after this % equity loss. 0 = off.
- MagicNumber: identifies this EA's trades.
- GMTOffsetHours (-99): broker GMT offset in hours. -99 = automatic.
- TradeAfterFixing (true): also sell after the fixing (09:55-10:30 JST).
