ZigZag_Keel is a technical indicator for MetaTrader 5 based on a double zigzag. It is designed to determine trend direction and generate buy and sell signals.
How It Works
The indicator uses two zigzags with different periods. KeelOver with a longer period determines the global price direction. Slalom with a shorter period finds local extremes. Signals are generated only in the direction of the global trend, which filters out false entries.
Trading Signals
A green arrow up indicates a buy signal. A red arrow down indicates a sell signal. Additionally, the indicator generates signals for placing limit orders on pullbacks against the main trend.
Tradable Instruments
The indicator is suitable for trading currency pairs, cryptocurrencies, indices, and commodities. It shows the highest effectiveness on instruments with good volatility and liquidity.
Recommended Timeframes
The main timeframe is M15. M30, H1, and H4 frames are also acceptable. Lower timeframes increase the number of false signals.
Indicator Settings
The KeelOver parameter sets the period of the main zigzag. Default value is 55. Higher values make the indicator less sensitive to short-term fluctuations.
The Slalom parameter sets the period of the auxiliary zigzag. Default value is 17. Lower values generate more signals.
The ArrowOffset parameter determines the vertical offset of arrows from bar extremes in pixels. It affects only the visual display.
Setting constraints: KeelOver cannot be less than 3, Slalom cannot be less than 2, and KeelOver must be greater than twice the Slalom value.
Trading Recommendations
Positions should be opened on the first bar after the signal arrow appears. Stop loss should be placed beyond the nearest opposite Slalom point. Take profit should be set at a ratio of at least 1:2 relative to the stop loss.
It is advisable to use additional filters: a moving average to confirm trend direction, RSI to assess overbought or oversold conditions. Trading during major economic news releases is not recommended.
Advantages
The indicator provides clear signal filtering based on global trend direction, reducing the number of false entries. Signals are displayed as arrows and require no additional interpretation. The indicator generates limit order signals, allowing entries at better prices on pullbacks. It does not visually clutter the chart with unnecessary lines.
Disadvantages
The indicator repaints on historical data, so decisions should only be made based on signals from closed bars. Sensitivity decreases during high spread conditions. False signals may occur during sideways movement. The indicator requires experience and is not recommended for beginner traders.
Limitations
The indicator does not guarantee profitable trades. Any decision to enter a position is made solely by the trader at their own risk. Testing on a demo account is recommended before live trading.
