GoldHelix is a fully automated Expert Advisor for XAUUSD, developed by INFOTECH.
The robot is built around one observation. Gold repeatedly pauses at round price levels, the
multiples of 50. While a level holds, orders build up on both sides of it. When price finally
leaves the level after holding there for a while, the move usually continues far enough to pay for
the trade. GoldHelix watches the round level above and the round level below the current price,
waits for one of them to be broken cleanly, and joins the break.
The robot protects a trade as early as it can. As soon as the position has moved a small step in
its favour, the stop is moved just past the entry price, so that trade can no longer end in a loss.
This is the reason the majority of its trades finish positive.
At most one position is open at any time. Every position is opened with a stop loss attached.
There is no grid, no martingale and no averaging into losing trades.
How it works
1. The robot tracks the nearest round price levels above and below gold, at the spacing you set,
50 by default.
2. A level only counts once it has held for at least an hour. A level that price is already
crossing back and forth is ignored.
3. When price clears a level by a margin scaled to recent volatility, the robot enters in the
direction of the break, buying an upside break and selling a downside break.
4. The stop loss is placed at half the average daily range, so it adapts as volatility changes.
5. Once the trade is a small step in profit, the stop is moved just past the entry price.
6. The take profit sits at one risk unit, and any position still open is closed before the trading
day ends, and earlier on Friday, so nothing is held overnight or over the weekend.
7. While a position is open, new signals are skipped. The robot never doubles up on one idea.
Filters
The robot stands aside on United States employment report days and on Federal Reserve decision
days. It also stands aside from 24 December to 1 January, and on the United States holidays on
which the gold market closes early: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day,
Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving. On those days trading stops before the
robot's normal closing time, so a trade opened then could not be closed on the same day. The
holiday dates are calculated by the robot itself and need no updates. It will not open a trade
when the spread is wider than the limit you set. A daily loss limit and an equity drawdown stop are available and
can be switched on if you want them.
Position size
There are three risk levels: Conservative, Balanced and Growth. You can also enter your own
percentage, use lots per 1000 of balance, or a fixed lot. The lot size is calculated from the stop
distance, so the amount risked stays steady as volatility changes. Lot sizes are always rounded
down, never up. If the smallest lot your broker allows would risk more than the level you chose,
the robot does not trade and writes a message in the journal. This is deliberate: the robot will
not exceed the risk you set in order to stay busy.
Works with any broker clock
Brokers start the trading day at different hours. GoldHelix measures where the daily pause falls in
its own price history and adjusts its schedule to match, including daylight saving changes. The
same settings work on a server at GMT plus 0 and on a server at GMT plus 3, without you changing
anything.
Dashboard
The panel on the chart shows the market time and the detected clock offset, the two levels being
watched and how long they have held, the number of signals taken today, the current daily
volatility, the risk per trade, balance, equity, open profit, the drawdown from the peak, and the
result for the day, the week and the month. It has a Pause button and a Close button.
Requirements
Symbol: XAUUSD. The robot is designed and tested for gold only.
Account: hedging, with a low spread. A raw or ECN account is preferable.
Minimum deposit: 5000 in the account currency, or the equivalent on a cent account. On a smaller
account the smallest lot most brokers allow would risk more than the settings permit, and the robot
will stand aside instead of trading.
Leverage: 1:100 or higher.
Timeframe: any. The robot reads the minute data it needs by itself.
A VPS is recommended so the robot runs without interruption.
Test results
The figures below are MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester results on real tick data. They are backtests
and not a record of live trading.
Symbol XAUUSD, 1 January 2021 to 22 September 2026, 99 percent history quality on real ticks,
deposit 10000 USD, leverage 1:500, no commission, version 1.01, 1085 trades.
Balanced level, which is the default: net profit 9238 USD, profit factor 1.74, largest equity
drawdown 4.49 percent, 87.8 percent of trades closed positive, longest run of losing trades 3.
Conservative level: net profit 2997 USD, profit factor 1.70, largest equity drawdown 1.84 percent.
Growth level: net profit 28811 USD, profit factor 1.65, largest equity drawdown 9.71 percent.
A higher custom risk setting of 2.5 percent gives net profit 44677 USD, profit factor 1.62 and a
largest equity drawdown of 11.99 percent over the same period. Raising the risk further increases
the drawdown faster than the profit, and the profit factor falls, so 2.5 percent is the highest
setting recommended.
Year by year at the Balanced level, as a percentage of the balance at the start of each year:
2021 plus 11.1, 2022 plus 8.5, 2023 plus 9.9, 2024 plus 8.9, 2025 plus 18.9, 2026 to September
plus 12.1. All six years were profitable. Of 69 months, 14 were losing months. The weakest month
was June 2025 at minus 2.7 percent and the strongest was February 2022 at plus 5.0 percent.
Execution speed
The same test repeated with a 500 millisecond execution delay gives net profit 9170 USD and profit
factor 1.73, against 9238 USD and 1.74 with instant execution. The robot enters on levels rather
than chasing fast moves, so a slow broker or a distant VPS changes very little.
Method
The rules were selected on data from 2021 to 2023, checked once on 2024, and only then tested on
2025 and 2026, which were held back during development. The robot places roughly 180 trades a year,
so a short period says little about it.
Risk warning
Trading gold involves substantial risk. Past results and backtests do not guarantee future
performance. Spread, slippage and execution speed differ between brokers and affect the outcome.
Test the robot on a demo account before using real money.
