ORB London EA
Overview
ORB London EA trades the opening range breakout of the London session. It measures a range over a short window at the open, places a stop order at each end of that range, and lets the market choose the direction. Every position is closed before the end of the trading day: the EA holds nothing overnight.
How it works
* The range is measured over a configurable window starting at a server hour that you calibrate against the London open for your broker.
* Two stop orders are placed at the range extremes with a configurable buffer. Whichever side triggers first defines the trade; the opposite order is cancelled.
* Minimum and maximum range filters reject days where the opening range is too narrow to pay for the spread or too wide to size sensibly.
* The stop loss sits at the opposite end of the range plus a buffer; the take profit is a fixed multiple of that risk.
* One trade per day by default, with an optional break-even move once the trade reaches a configurable multiple of its risk.
* A forced close at a configurable server hour flattens any remaining position, which is what makes the strategy purely intraday.
* Individual weekdays can be enabled or disabled, so the EA can be restricted to the days that were validated for a given market.
* An optional trend filter allows entries only in the direction of a moving average.
* Optional account-protection guards: daily loss limit, ratcheting maximum loss limit, margin ceiling. All inactive by default.
Risk management
Percentage of equity risked per trade, computed from the range width, with an optional maximum lot.
Recommended use
Designed and tested on EURUSD M5. A dedicated parameter fixes the timeframe on which the range is measured, independently of the chart timeframe, so the expert keeps working when it is attached to a chart of a different timeframe. The range hours are server hours; an optional setting derives them from the detected server GMT offset instead, which also survives daylight saving transitions. No hardcoded symbol. Hedging or netting accounts, any broker, no DLL.
Backtest results
MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester, 100% real tick data, January 2016 to June 2026, EURUSD M5, initial deposit 10 000 USD, leverage 1:100: net profit 2 173 USD, profit factor 1.12, maximum balance drawdown 9.63%, 535 trades, 46.0% of trades profitable, average win 84 USD against average loss 64 USD.
Configuration of that backtest, which is the one shipped in the parameter file next to the product: Monday only, 0.50% risk per trade, account protection disabled. The default values of the expert trade all five weekdays with 1.00% risk, which is a different configuration and will not reproduce the figures above. Load the parameter file to reproduce them.
A profit factor of 1.12 is a thin edge and it is stated as such: this EA is designed as one component of a diversified portfolio.
