Brent

Brent crude (or Brent Blend, London Brent, and Brent petroleum) is a crude oil extracted from the North Sea (the territory between the British Isles, mainland Europe, and Scandinavia). It is generally classified as a light, sweet crude blend, thereby making it easy to refine. It is however, not as light as light crude (often referred to as West Texas Intermediate).

Brent crude futures are traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange under ticker symbol BZ. Futures contracts are delivered every month of the year.

Originally Brent Crude was produced from the Brent oilfield. Its name comes from the naming policy of Shell UK Exploration and Production, operating on behalf of ExxonMobil and Royal Dutch Shell, which originally named all of its fields after birds (in this case the Brent Goose).
