Gold Breakout Recovery

Gold Breakout Recovery is an Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 designed for automated trading on XAUUSD.

The EA is based on a breakout trading approach and includes a recovery mode for unfavorable trading periods. The user controls the overall risk using one main parameter: Drawdown, %.

The EA is designed for MT5 hedging accounts.

Installation

Install the EA in MetaTrader 5.
Open the XAUUSD chart.
The recommended timeframe is M1.
Attach Gold Breakout Recovery to the chart.
Allow algorithmic trading and enable Algo Trading.
Select the desired Drawdown, % value.
A VPS is recommended for continuous operation.

Published tests were performed on XAUUSD M1.

Drawdown, %

This is the main user parameter.

Default value: 30

Allowed range: greater than 0 and not higher than 50

50 is the maximum allowed value.

If a value above 50 is entered, the EA will not start.

A higher Drawdown setting means higher trading load on the account and potentially higher profit, but also higher potential drawdown.

The Drawdown parameter is a risk setting, not a guarantee that the actual account drawdown will stay below that value.

Recovery activation

Recovery is activated automatically when trading drawdown reaches 20% of the selected Drawdown value.

Examples:

Drawdown 10 → Recovery at 2%
Drawdown 20 → Recovery at 4%
Drawdown 30 → Recovery at 6%
Drawdown 40 → Recovery at 8%
Drawdown 50 → Recovery at 10%

Deposits and withdrawals are not treated as trading drawdown and do not trigger Recovery.

Risk profiles

Drawdown 10 — the most conservative tested setting.
Drawdown 30 — a balanced setting between profit potential and risk.
Drawdown 50 — the maximum allowed risk setting.

Backtest results

Gold Breakout Recovery was tested separately for each year from 2011 to 2026 with an initial deposit of $10,000.

Three settings were tested: Drawdown 10, 30, and 50.
