Rule-based London session breakout for USDJPY H1. Bollinger Band breakout entries confirmed by ADX trend strength, fixed stop loss and take profit on every trade, spread filter, no martingale, no grid, no hidden logic.
London Volatility Breakout JPY trades one simple, fully mechanical idea: when USDJPY breaks out of its Bollinger Bands during the London session with genuine trend strength behind it, momentum tends to follow through.
HOW IT TRADES
- Entry: price closes outside the Bollinger Bands (20, 2.0) during London hours (07:00-16:00 server time)
- Confirmation: ADX(14) above 20, so it only trades when the market is actually moving
- Every trade has a fixed stop loss (35 pips) and take profit (70 pips) - a 2:1 reward-to-risk ratio, set at entry
- Spread filter: skips trades when the spread is too wide
- Trades once per bar at most, new-bar confirmed - no tick-level noise trading
- Built-in safeguards: skips trades the account can't afford, respects broker volume limits, and always attaches the stop loss and take profit the moment a trade opens.
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
- No martingale, no grid, no averaging down
- No hidden AI or curve-fitted magic - the full rule set is described above
- It will not trade outside the London session, and it will not open a position the account cannot afford
RECOMMENDED USE
- Symbol: USDJPY
- Timeframe: H1
- Minimum deposit: 500 USD for 0.1 lots (scale proportionally)
- Account type: any hedging or netting account, low-spread broker recommended
This is a patient, low-frequency strategy - expect a handful of trades per week, not per day. It is built for traders who want a transparent rule set they can verify in the strategy tester, not a promise of overnight riches. Always test on a demo account first.
1. Attach the EA to a USDJPY H1 chart.
2. Enable Algo Trading in MT5 (button in the top toolbar - the EA shows a smiley face when active).
3. Inputs you may want to adjust:
- Position size automatically scales with your account (default 2% risk per trade). Prefer fixed lots? Switch one setting.
- Magic number: only change it if you run multiple EAs on the same account.
- Session hours: defaults match London on a GMT+2/+3 broker. If your broker uses a different server timezone, shift the start and end hours to cover 07:00-16:00 UK time.
4. Leave the chart running (or use a VPS) - the EA evaluates once per completed H1 bar.
5. Run it on a demo account for at least 2-4 weeks before going live.
Q: Which pairs and timeframes does it work on?
A: It is validated on USDJPY H1. It will run on other symbols, but the parameters were chosen and tested for USDJPY - I recommend keeping it there.
Q: How often does it trade?
A: A few trades per week on average. It only trades London hours and only when the trend filter confirms. Quiet weeks with no trades are normal.
Q: Does it use martingale, grid, or averaging?
A: No. One position at a time, fixed lot, fixed stop loss and take profit on every trade.
Q: What is the worst case per trade?
A: The stop loss caps risk at 35 pips per trade at your chosen lot size. There are no hidden positions.
Q: Why did the strategy tester show no trades?
A: Check that you are testing USDJPY on H1 with real spread data, and that the session hours match London time for your broker's server timezone.
Q: Do I need a VPS?
A: Recommended but not required. The EA decides once per hour, so brief disconnections are less damaging than for scalpers - but a VPS keeps it consistent.
Q: Can I change the stop loss / take profit?
A: Yes, both are inputs. The defaults (35/70) are what was tested; changing them changes the results.
