Kfir Assayag
I'm Kfir Assayag, founder of Nexfin. I build rule-based trading tools for MetaTrader 5: two Expert Advisors (Volatility Breakout and Donchian Trend) and three indicators that show their own track record on your chart.
How I work: - Version: 1.9
- Activations: 10
Nexfin Volatility Breakout trades range expansion. It measures the highest high and the lowest low of a lookback window, widens that channel by a multiple of the Average True Range so that ordinary noise does not count as a breakout, and enters only when a bar closes beyond the widened level. An ATR trailing stop manages the exit, widening in volatile conditions and tightening in quiet ones.
The channel is measured on the bars before the signal bar, so a breakout is a genuine close beyond the prior range rather than a comparison against a bar that includes itself.
Presets, and how they work
One input sets the strategy for an asset class: Crypto (the default), Metals, Indices or Forex, all designed for the H4 chart. Balanced takes the midpoint of the four class presets and uses a wider stop. It is an option for an instrument that fits no class, not a lower-risk setting.
A named preset applies its own strategy values and overrides the matching fields in the Inputs window. To set those values yourself, select Custom. The dashboard always shows the values that are actually in force.
Every preset tested, including the ones that lost
Each preset was tested on the market it names, and Balanced on all four. Profit factor, trades and maximum relative drawdown:
Crypto, BTCUSD 2019-2026: PF 1.78, 266 trades, 7.16%
Metals, XAUUSD 2016-2026: PF 1.10, 374 trades, 14.62%
Indices, US100 2020-2026: PF 1.19, 169 trades, 11.61%
Forex, EURUSD 2016-2026: PF 1.08, 318 trades, 12.64%
Balanced on BTCUSD: PF 1.88, 255 trades, 5.55%
Balanced on XAUUSD: PF 1.45, 265 trades, 11.91%
Balanced on US100: PF 1.05, 180 trades, 9.32%
Balanced on EURUSD: PF 1.13, 282 trades, 12.16%
All eight runs finished above a profit factor of one. The margins on Metals, Indices and Forex are thin, and a thin historical margin can turn negative on different data or costs.
Checked on real ticks, on broker symbols
The table above uses 1-minute OHLC modelling on clean data feeds. To see whether that model flatters the presets, every preset was run twice more on a broker's own symbols (Tickmill, January 2025 to September 2026): once on 1-minute OHLC and once on real ticks. The two agreed closely on all eight: for example Crypto 1.22 against 1.15 and Metals 2.72 against 2.65. In that recent window the Indices and Forex presets lost money under both models, which is why testing on your own instrument matters.
Test conditions
MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester, 1-minute OHLC, 99-100% history quality. BTCUSD uses Binance spot data and XAUUSD, US100 and EURUSD use HistData, imported as custom symbols. USD 10,000 starting balance, 1:500 leverage as recorded in the reports, 1% risk per trade, account guard off. These are historical simulations, not live trading, and they do not predict future results. Test on your own broker's data before trading.
Funded account guard
Included for traders on funded or proprietary accounts, and disabled by default so the Expert Advisor behaves normally out of the box. The daily loss limit is checked against equity and counted down from the balance, the equity or the higher of the two at the reset, as a percentage of the starting balance or of that day-start value, with the reset hour read on server, UTC, Central European or New York time, so it can follow the way your firm words its rule. The overall drawdown limit is either static from the starting balance or trailing from the equity high-water mark, and a rule-shape selector fills in the limits for the entry matching what your firm publishes. A safety margin, or a level you set for the daily and for the overall limit separately, makes the guard act before the firm's limit rather than on it. For firms that word their rules differently, the trailing limit can sit a fixed share of the starting balance below the high-water mark or a share of the mark itself, and stop where the firm's own limit stops at the starting balance, keeping its margin above it; the daily floor can be checked on the lower of balance and equity; the reset can fall on any minute; and the news filter can also remove pending orders or close positions before the event. Caps on the floating loss and on the total loss at the stop-loss of all open positions, daily and overall profit targets, exposure caps, flat before the weekend, flat before a cutoff hour and a news filter using the built-in MetaTrader calendar are also available. Gaps, slippage and disconnections can still carry a loss past any threshold.
Prop firms differ on purchased EAs. Several restrict an EA that many traders run, because it opens the same trades in many accounts. Read your firm's rules on third-party EAs before using this EA on an evaluation or funded account.
Dashboard
An on-chart panel shows the active preset and its values, the open position and its running profit or loss, the trend and session state, session statistics, and bar meters for daily loss and drawdown against the limits you configured.
Try it first
Download the free demo and run it in the Strategy Tester: choose a symbol, the H4 period and a preset, and compare what you get with the table above. The demo runs in the tester, not on a live chart.
Technical
Works on any symbol and timeframe; the presets were designed for H4. Adapts automatically to digits, point size, minimum stop distance, lot step and filling mode. Position size is risk-based from the stop distance or a fixed lot. No DLL calls, no web requests, no external files. Inputs are validated with a clear message.
With risk-based sizing the EA never sends a lot larger than the configured risk allows. On an expensive instrument and a small balance the broker's minimum lot can exceed that risk; the EA then skips the entry and writes 'Entry skipped' to the journal, with the loss the minimum lot would carry. Example: on XAUUSD in 2026, 1% risk at a 0.01 minimum lot needed about USD 26,000 of equity on the daily chart and about USD 12,000 on H4. A larger balance or an instrument with a smaller contract fits the configured risk; raising the risk percent, or switching to the fixed-lot input, means accepting more risk per trade.
Requirements: MetaTrader 5, and a broker whose symbol accepts stop-loss orders. For questions, please use the comments section of this product or send a message through the site.
