Trend Slope and Momentum Continuation Framework for MT5
Section 1: Context and Core Value
Stop Trading in Directionless Market Consolidation
Traders often face their most severe drawdowns during flat, range-bound market phases. Reacting to minor structural fluctuations as if an active trend is developing frequently leads to whipsaws and premature stop-outs from two-sided liquidity wicks. Conversely, hesitation during genuine trend continuation often stems from an inability to quantify whether directional velocity is accelerating or exhausting. The underlying challenge is execution without confirming the directional trajectory and momentum profile of the market.
EmaSlopeMomentum is designed to quantify directional trajectory directly on your chart. The algorithm evaluates the rate of change and angular slope of key moving averages, identifying when directional velocity is actively expanding rather than drifting sideways. Flat, low-liquidity phases and indecisive micro-consolidations are systematically filtered out, leaving structured visual cues aligned with verified directional expansion. When slope velocity accelerates and aligns with trend momentum, clear visual confirmation highlights that the market has established directional bias.
This indicator is optimized for active trading sessions across high-liquidity symbols. Highly traded instruments that exhibit clean trend development and substantial volume provide the ideal market conditions for identifying sustained directional slopes and continuation phases.
Section 2: Entry Logic and Trade Management
When an upward trend structure is confirmed and price action prints a dominant bullish expansion candle while the slope metrics confirm active upward velocity, EmaSlopeMomentum marks the trend expansion with a green arrow. The entry trigger is the open of the subsequent candle. The execution logic operates symmetrically for short positions: when downward order flow dominates and a strong bearish candle breaks structure while the slope indicates confirmed downward velocity, a red arrow forms for an entry on the next candle open.
The indicator automatically calculates a Stop Loss beyond the most recent swing high or swing low, incorporating a volatility buffer to give the position adequate room to breathe without exposing capital to unnecessary risk. Systematic trade management is guided by a structured 4-tier Take Profit ladder:
- TP1 at 0.5R: Structured for early risk mitigation and initial profit realization.
- TP2 at 0.8R: Targets standard continuation swings within normal market volatility.
- TP3 at 1.2R: Engineered to capture extended momentum phases.
- TP4 at 2.0R: Serves as an extended runner target during sustained, high-velocity trends.
Signal logic is strictly non-repainting. Once a candle completes and closes, the signal arrow, Stop Loss, and all Take Profit levels lock permanently onto the chart. Values do not recalculate, shift, or disappear on future price bars.

Signal Filtering (Signal Brake)
Sideways consolidation and two-sided liquidity wicks can generate repeated false signals. The Signal Brake logic is intended to reduce this:
- Limits rapid BUY/SELL flip-flopping in tight consolidation ranges.
- Restricts new same-direction signals while a prior setup is still active.
- Requires a minimum R-distance before the next signal can trigger.
On-Chart Historical Backtest Panel
A built-in panel summarizes how signals performed on historical data for the current settings:
- Historical hit-rate breakdown across TP1, TP2, TP3, and TP4.
- Sample size shown for the configured lookback period.
- Highlights which TP level had the best historical hit-rate for that sample.
