Over Ten Years of Testing Before Public Release

MATrader was not created after a few backtests. We spent more than 10 years developing, testing and refining the system before making it public, covering entries, higher-timeframe trend detection, grid behavior, position sizing, recovery logic, profit management, filters and how all parts work together.

Our conservative reference configuration has now been running for more than seven years across very different XAUUSD conditions. It intentionally uses conservative sizing so we can observe the strategy consistently over long periods rather than maximize short-term returns.

MATrader can be customized extensively, but we recommend understanding the standard strategy before increasing exposure.

How MATrader AI Trades Gold

MATrader was developed specifically for XAUUSD around one core idea: trade with the major gold trend instead of constantly fighting it.

The standard entry process combines two parts of our AI-calibrated MAT logic:

  • MAT Trend Engine - Uses MN1 to determine the larger market direction.
  • MAT Momentum Engine - Uses M5 as a shorter-term confirmation layer.

MATrader can wait until the larger trend and shorter-term conditions align instead of constantly opening new trades.

Once a position is active, it manages the complete cycle automatically. Its grid and recovery logic can add and manage positions when needed, using normal XAUUSD retracements and market movement to work the basket toward an exit.

The EA can therefore react differently to an initial entry, normal correction, larger adverse move or existing basket. Advanced users can also customize many additional settings and protection systems.

Why MATrader Currently Trades Almost Only BUY

MATrader has both BUY and SELL engines, but it does not trade both directions just to create more trades. The default strategy follows the higher-timeframe trend, with MN1 determining the main direction.

Gold has remained in a strong long-term bullish structure for much of our reference period, so the MAT Trend Engine has stayed predominantly bullish and the trading history is almost entirely BUY. This is intentional.

MATrader does not short gold simply because price has risen a lot or a short-term indicator looks overbought. A SELL cycle becomes relevant only when the higher-timeframe trend turns bearish and the shorter-term conditions confirm it.

We believe this trend alignment is an important reason MATrader has remained profitable across many years instead of depending on one short market phase.

Money Management

  • Percent Lot - Position sizing can automatically scale according to the account balance.
  • Fixed Lot - Uses a consistent starting position size selected by the user.
  • Step Lots - The standard MATrader grid progression. Lot size increases gradually after a configurable number of positions.
  • Lot Multiplicator - Multiplier-based progression is available as an optional advanced configuration.
  • Sum Lots - Position sizing can increase according to the accumulated sequence.
  • Fixed Grid Lots - Additional grid positions can use a fixed lot structure.
  • Maximum Lot - The maximum position size can be capped.
  • Configurable Grid Step - Grid distance can be adjusted according to the desired configuration.

The standard MATrader configuration uses Step Lots, not classic Martingale progression.

With Step Lots, the lot size remains unchanged for several grid positions before increasing by another controlled step. This produces a much more gradual exposure curve than multiplying every consecutive position.

Grid and Recovery Management

Once MATrader opens an initial position, it manages the complete cycle automatically.

If XAUUSD moves as expected, normal Take Profit and profit-protection logic can manage the exit. If price moves temporarily against the trade, MATrader can add grid positions according to the configured distance and lot rules.

The positions are then managed as one basket. Different entry levels change the average price and give the recovery logic more opportunities to use normal market retracements. The standard setup adds recovery positions in the active cycle direction rather than constantly opening opposite trades.

Optional Hedge Controls

MATrader includes advanced hedge functionality for users who intentionally want it, but Hedge Mode is disabled in our normal reference configuration.

The standard approach follows the higher-timeframe trend and manages the resulting cycle instead of constantly hedging trend-aligned positions. If enabled, hedge controls can activate after a selected number of positions and include advanced cross-engine options.

Profit and Trade Management

  • Take Profit - Configurable Take Profit distance for the trading cycle.
  • Minimal Profit Protection - Larger grids can be closed when the configured combined profit condition is reached.
  • Partial Profit Close - Profitable parts of a position structure can be managed separately when enabled.
  • Trailing Stop - Protects profitable movement as XAUUSD continues in the trade direction.
  • Break Even - Can protect a position after the configured profitable movement has been reached.
  • Equity Take Profit - Can close the managed positions once a configured floating-profit percentage of account balance is reached.
  • Daily Target - Can close the trading cycle once the configured daily profit target is reached.
  • Trade Frequency Filter - Restricts how frequently additional positions can be opened.

The standard order-frequency control can restrict MATrader to one new order per selected candle. This helps prevent several grid positions from being opened too quickly during a sudden market movement.

Risk Management

Gold can move very quickly, so MATrader includes several separate protection layers.

  • Equity Caution - Can pause additional orders when floating drawdown reaches the configured soft limit.
  • Equity Stop - Provides a separate hard drawdown threshold for critical conditions.
  • Optional Close All on Equity Stop - The hard equity protection can be configured to close the complete position structure.
  • Maximum Lot - Prevents the EA from exceeding the configured maximum position size.
  • Maximum Open Trade Limits - Optional controls can limit total positions and positions per engine.
  • Daily PnL Protection - Optional daily profit and loss limits can stop new trading.
  • Hard Grid Level Cap - Can restrict how deep a grid is allowed to become.
  • Recovery Mode - Can automatically reduce position sizing during larger drawdown.
  • Drawdown Circuit Breaker - Can temporarily pause new trading after difficult trading sequences.

Why the Broker Matters

An Expert Advisor does not trade one universal XAUUSD price.

It trades the Bid and Ask prices, spreads and execution conditions delivered to MetaTrader by the broker.

Different brokers can use different banks, liquidity providers, liquidity pools and price aggregation systems. Because of that, two brokers displaying XAUUSD at exactly the same moment can still produce slightly different prices and execution.

These differences can include:

  • Liquidity providers - Brokers can receive executable gold prices from different market participants.
  • Liquidity aggregation - Bid and Ask prices can be assembled differently from available liquidity.
  • Bid and Ask prices - The exact XAUUSD quote can differ between brokers.
  • Tick timing - Price updates can arrive in a different sequence or at slightly different times.
  • Spread behavior - Gold spreads can widen differently during volatility, news and lower-liquidity periods.
  • Execution price - The available fill can change between the trading decision and execution.
  • Slippage - Different liquidity and execution infrastructure can produce different fills.
  • Execution latency - Broker servers, VPS location and network routing can affect execution timing.
  • Short price movements - One broker can reach a grid level that another broker misses by only a few points.
  • Trading costs - Spreads and other order costs affect effective entry and exit prices.
  • Swap - Overnight financing can differ between trading environments.
  • Contract specifications - Minimum lot size, lot step, contract size and other XAUUSD specifications can differ.

Why This Matters for MATrader AI

This becomes especially important when MATrader is managing a larger cycle.

If RoboForex reaches the next BUY grid level and opens another position while another broker misses that level by only a few points, the two accounts immediately contain different baskets.

From there, average entry prices, later grid levels, Break Even and Take Profit can all differ. That is why the same MATrader settings do not necessarily reproduce the same trades on another broker.

If you want to stay as close as possible to our reference environment, using the same RoboForex ProCent setup makes sense.

Why We Use and Recommend RoboForex

MATrader was developed, tested and monitored using RoboForex ProCent conditions, but our reason for using RoboForex is not only technical.

But last week when Gold fell so steep the EA lost its mind and instead to open sells he opened more and more buys until the account crashed. Excellent Expert Advisor! I did several backtests before putting it on a live account and the robot has been working exactly as expected. My only warning is about the balance—you need at least $22,000 to be safe, but the developer already mentions this in the instructions. For those with little money, I suggest a cent account.

At first glance, the Expert Advisor is good, BUT one day you wake up in the morning and find that your deposit is no more! Loss limit settings live their own lives, stop loss can work, and it can not work! Trailing stop in the settings is there, but it does not work! There are a lot of settings, but most of them are useless! For the sake of fairness, I will say that the entry points are mostly justified! If the Expert Advisor adds a stop in pips and connects trailing, it will be great!!!

No matter how hard the author tries to convince everyone who has lost their deposit that they are stupid and don't know anything, all you have to do is look at the signal he posted, and you'll immediately understand who is right and who is wrong!!! Signal information: the deposit has sunk by more than 60%, and the author has added \$5,000 to the deposit to save it from death! So, Mark, instead of puffing out your chest and claiming that everyone is a fool, why don't you set up a stop loss in pips and a working trailing stop!

Please read our guide if you dont understand the parameters or ask us, for everyone else every function works perfectly. aswell please learn how to read, if used on a 5000$ standard account, it is not the recommended balance, we recommend 20.000€, we took that into account when creating the signal and the possibility of having issues is higher as the lot size is 4x higher than recommended. the only reason we use a standard account here is because cent accounts are not possible for signal sharing, but on our myfxbook statistics you can see everything fully publicly. and the main reason i deposited more money in the account at the drawdown was because i was on a flight for 15 hours and did not have wifi, was just a safety thing that at the end was not even needed and even caused the signals statistics to show worse stats. you can even see that in the equity curve, that the drawdown was never in a dangerous level. But always better to be safe. the fact that you edited your review like 4 times says a lot about you. And honestly, nobody forces you and we give out everything for free, you can just trade by yourself if you think you are a better trader, we dont appreciate you in our community at all anyway

Well if you use the EA against our recommendation and use wrong balance and wrong settings, we cannot help you, thats all on you. next time just read the recommendations of the author and you will be profitable like the over 30.000 other people. As it is, MATrader is running profitable for over 6 years now, so not sure why you want to change it, its literally a money printer. and you say it trades 0.01 lots on 100k cents, thats not even true, the lot size is adjusting with balance automatically and on a 100k cent account its much higher. there is not a single limit on anything so not sure whats your problem or if you actually have a problem or you are just a other jealous EA developer that is not able to build EAs like we do and now wants to sabotage us

I use it on both MT4 and MT5. It’s such an amazing EA that I can hardly believe it’s free. Once I fine-tuned the settings, it’s been generating profits of nearly 50% of my capital almost every day. Occasionally, it slips up and can’t keep up with market movements (though that might be because I adjusted the settings), but I make sure to stop it manually in those cases. Thank you so much for developing such a fantastic EA and for making it available to us.

Hi yes if you increase the lots like 50-100x times as you do, ofcourse it can have issues on higher liquidity. thats why we recommend to run safe and realistic settings (default)

Hello, I have noticed that during backtesting, this EA frequently goes for periods of time without executing any trades. Furthermore, the stop-loss settings do not appear to function correctly in the backtest, and under certain extreme market conditions (as shown in the chart), it neither triggers the stop-loss nor opens a hedging trade, resulting in a margin call.
