User Guide: Custom Regression Signals MT5
Custom Regression Signals is a professional technical analysis tool for MetaTrader 5 that utilizes the mathematical method of Linear Regression to construct dynamic price channels. Unlike standard static channels, this indicator actively analyzes price dynamics to help traders identify whether the market is in an active trend or a sideways (flat) phase.
1. How the Indicator Works
The indicator builds a channel based on a specified lookback period. It automatically changes color depending on the current market phase:
-
Green Channel (Bullish Trend): The price is steadily rising. In this phase, the indicator filters for BUY signals only, occurring at the lower boundary of the channel.
-
Red Channel (Bearish Trend): The price is steadily falling. In this phase, the indicator generates SELL signals only, occurring at the upper boundary of the channel.
-
Gray Channel (Flat): The market is moving sideways. In this phase, trading is permitted in both directions from the channel boundaries (mean reversion).
2. Trading Signals
The indicator displays arrows on the chart when the price extends beyond the calculated channel boundaries:
-
Upward Arrow (Green/Gray): A Buy signal. The price is considered oversold relative to the regression line.
-
Downward Arrow (Red/Gray): A Sell signal. The price is considered overbought relative to the regression line.
Important: The indicator features a Smart Filter. During a strong uptrend, it will suppress sell signals even if the price touches the upper boundary, protecting you from trading against dominant market momentum.
3. Key Parameters
You can customize the indicator to suit your specific trading style:
-
Regression Period (100): The number of candlesticks used to calculate the channel. Larger values represent more global trends.
-
Deviation (2.0): The width of the channel (Standard Deviation multiplier). A value of 2.0 typically covers about 95% of price movement. Increase this to 3.0 for rare, high-strength signals.
-
Flat Threshold (0.5): Sensitivity to sideways movement. This determines the slope angle at which the channel turns gray.
-
Notifications (Alerts/Push): Enable InpUseAlert for desktop sound alerts or InpUsePush to receive notifications directly on your mobile terminal.
4. Usage Tips
-
Timeframes: While it works on all periods, the most stable signals are generally found on M15, H1, and H4.
-
Confirmation: Pair the indicator with horizontal support/resistance levels or volume indicators to confirm potential reversals.
-
Exit Strategy: It is recommended to close positions when the price reaches the median (center) line or the opposite boundary of the channel.
