Strong Fade Signals for MetaTrader 5
Overview
Strong Fade Signals is a price-action indicator designed to identify potential reversal opportunities when price becomes unusually extended relative to its volatility-adjusted reference level.
Strong directional moves can carry price far beyond its typical range. When that extension begins to lose momentum, the market may offer an opportunity for a countertrend move toward the reference level or a broader mean-reversion target.
The indicator combines ATR-based burst detection, configurable exhaustion filters, signal-strength scoring, and visual trade-level tracking to help traders evaluate these situations systematically.
Its focus is not on following every directional move. Instead, it looks for conditions where an extended upward move may be approaching a potential short setup, or an extended downward move may be approaching a potential long setup.
How It Works
1. Volatility-Adjusted Burst Detection
The indicator calculates a reference basis using a selectable moving-average method and measures price extension relative to ATR-based bands.
Available basis methods include:
-
EMA — Exponential Moving Average.
-
SMA — Simple Moving Average.
-
HMA — Hull Moving Average.
-
WMA — Weighted Moving Average.
-
VWMA — Volume-Weighted Moving Average.
-
RMA — Running Moving Average.
The band multiplier controls how far price must extend from the reference basis before a burst is detected.
2. Burst Intensity and Stack Levels
The indicator measures the extent of price movement beyond the volatility-adjusted band and organises the extension into configurable stack levels.
Stack height helps describe the degree of price extension. A minimum stack-height requirement can be set before the indicator considers a fade signal.
This creates a configurable framework for distinguishing ordinary price fluctuations from more substantial bursts.
3. Fade Signal Filtering
After detecting an extended move, the indicator evaluates the configured fade conditions.
Available filters include:
-
Minimum Burst Magnitude: Requires a specified degree of price extension.
-
Rejection Wick: Optionally requires a qualifying rejection wick.
-
RSI Exhaustion: Optionally requires RSI to reach configured overbought or oversold thresholds.
-
Direction Controls: Enable or disable fade-long and fade-short signals independently.
-
Signal Cooldown: Sets minimum spacing between signals in bars.
-
Bar-Close Confirmation: When enabled, requires bar-close confirmation for signal generation.
A fade-long setup is associated with exhaustion following a downward burst. A fade-short setup is associated with exhaustion following an upward burst.
4. Signal Strength Ranking
Each potential fade setup is evaluated using a weighted scoring framework.
The scoring inputs include:
-
Burst extension.
-
Stack height.
-
Momentum exhaustion.
-
Rejection-wick characteristics.
-
Trend fit.
-
Volatility regime.
-
Available room for reversion.
The weights assigned to these factors can be adjusted. Signal labels can display a star-based strength ranking, while configurable minimum-star thresholds can be used to filter signals and alerts.
The score is a comparative signal-quality measure generated by the indicator, not a guarantee of trade success or a statistically established probability of profit.
5. Stop-Loss and Take-Profit Framework
The indicator can plot proposed stop-loss and take-profit levels around qualifying signals.
Three stop calculation modes are available:
-
Burst Extreme: Bases the stop on the burst's extreme price.
-
ATR Multiple: Uses an ATR-based stop distance.
-
Swing Extreme: Uses a recent swing extreme.
A stop buffer and minimum and maximum risk distances can be configured.
Two target approaches are supported:
-
R Multiples: Creates a target ladder based on multiples of the initial risk, with configurable TP1, TP2, and TP3 levels.
-
Mean Reversion: Uses a mean-reversion-based target approach.
The indicator tracks historical signal outcomes against its plotted levels and can display exit labels and a summary dashboard.
These are analytical tracking features; the indicator does not place, manage, or execute live broker orders.

Suggested Trading Workflow
-
Identify a strong burst away from the indicator's reference basis.
-
Check the stack height and the extent of the move.
-
Evaluate the signal-strength score and any enabled RSI or rejection-wick filters.
-
Review the broader trend and multi-timeframe burst conditions.
-
Assess the plotted entry reference, stop-loss level, and target ladder.
-
Consider a fade only when the setup aligns with your trading plan and the risk is acceptable.
-
Review the historical tracking statistics to understand how the configured approach has behaved on the instrument and timeframe.
Suitable For
-
Mean-reversion traders.
-
Countertrend and exhaustion-based traders.
-
Intraday traders looking for highly extended price movements.
-
Traders who prefer configurable filters and signal-strength ranking.
-
Traders who want visual stop-loss, target, and historical outcome tracking.
Important Notes
Strong Fade Signals is a chart-based analytical indicator, not an automated execution system. Extended price movements can continue much further than expected, and an apparent exhaustion signal can fail.
Historical outcome statistics depend on the indicator's rules, settings, available price history, and market conditions. They should not be interpreted as a guarantee of future results or as a substitute for independent strategy testing and risk management.
