Momentum Compass is a momentum and slope oscillator built on an adaptive (Jurik Moving Average) JMA-style filter, paired with a multi-timeframe status panel. It shows the direction and strength of momentum on your current chart, and lets you check the same reading across seven other timeframes — from M1 to D1 — without opening a single extra chart window.
Advantages
- Low-lag response. The underlying adaptive filter is designed to turn with price sooner than a standard moving average, so momentum shifts show up closer to when they actually happen.
- See every timeframe at once. A compact on-chart panel lists the current momentum reading for M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, and D1 side by side, so you can check higher and lower timeframe context in a glance instead of switching charts.
- Does not repaint. Once a bar closes, its value is final and will not change on later ticks. An input lets you choose whether the panel reads the live, still-forming bar or the last confirmed bar, so the display behaves exactly as you expect it to.
- Works across markets. The same calculation applies cleanly to forex, cryptocurrency, and stock or index symbols — there is no forex-only assumption built into the price handling.
- Lightweight on resources. The multi-timeframe panel refreshes on a timer you control rather than on every tick, so it stays responsive without adding unnecessary load.
Features
- Two-color histogram: one color for rising momentum, one for falling momentum, plotted in a separate window below the price chart.
- On-chart status panel showing the current timeframe's momentum plus a full M1–D1 momentum readout.
- Choice of live or closed-bar readout for the panel, so you decide whether to prioritize speed or stability of the display.
- Adjustable filter length and phase, so you can tune the balance between smoothness and responsiveness to fit your trading style.
- Compatible with any symbol your broker provides — forex, crypto, and stock/index instruments alike.
Features
Momentum Compass is built to sit comfortably alongside a strategy or indicators you already use, rather than replace them:
- Entry confirmation - If your existing setup — a moving average cross, a breakout pattern, a price action signal, or another indicator entirely — flags a potential entry, checking that Momentum Compass agrees on direction before pulling the trigger adds an independent second opinion, since it is measuring something different (adaptive slope/momentum) than most trend or oscillator tools.
- Exit and trail management - Momentum flattening or turning against an open position is often visible on this oscillator before it shows up on price alone, which can help with tightening stops or planning an exit.
- Multi-timeframe alignment check - Because the panel already shows M1–D1 in one place, it's a fast way to confirm that a lower-timeframe entry isn't fighting the higher-timeframe trend — a common discretionary and systematic filtering technique.
- Fits any existing chart setup - It runs in its own subwindow and does not draw on price, so it will not interfere with moving averages, support/resistance lines, or any other indicators already on your chart.
Parameters
| Parameter | Description |
| JMA Length | Sets the smoothing period of the adaptive filter. A lower value reacts faster but shows more noise; a higher value is smoother but slower to turn. |
| JMA Phase | Fine-tunes the filter's responsiveness, from -100 to 100. Values closer to +100 reduce lag further at the cost of some overshoot. |
| Panel Refresh (ms) | How often the on-chart panel and multi-timeframe rows update, in milliseconds. Lower values update more often; higher values use less processing. |
| Use Closed Bar For Panel | When enabled, the panel and momentum readout reflect the last fully closed bar, so the display never changes after being printed. When disabled, it shows the live, still-forming bar instead. |
| MTF History Bars | The number of historical bars fetched per timeframe to calculate the multi-timeframe panel's momentum readings. |
*Momentum Compass is a technical indicator. It does not place trades or generate automatic buy/sell signals. As with any indicator, past behavior of the plotted values does not guarantee future results — use it alongside your own analysis and risk management.
