Range CCI Clear Sky EA - Gold (XAUUSD) Breakout System
Range CCI Clear Sky is a fully automated trading system built specifically for XAUUSD (Gold). Instead of trading every price move, it waits for the market to build a clear consolidation range and then evaluates whether the breakout out of that range is genuine or likely to fail, before ever placing a trade.
Many breakout systems suffer from the same problem: they react to the first move out of a range, only to get caught in a false breakout as price reverses back into consolidation. Range CCI Clear Sky was built to specifically address this weakness. A trade is only opened when several independent conditions agree at the same time - momentum behind the move, the freshness and width of the breakout itself, and the surrounding price structure. If any one of these conditions is not met, no trade is taken, even if the others look favorable.
This layered filtering approach naturally results in a selective trading style - the EA is not designed to trade constantly, but to wait for setups where multiple factors align, aiming for a better quality of entry over sheer trade frequency.
How it works (concept overview)
-
The EA continuously scans XAUUSD price action to identify periods of consolidation and measures the width of each range that forms.
-
Once a valid range is established, it monitors for a breakout and checks whether that breakout is fresh (happening right as price exits the range) rather than a delayed, already-extended move.
-
A momentum filter is used to confirm that the breakout is backed by genuine directional pressure, rather than random drift.
-
Before entry is confirmed, the EA also checks the surrounding market structure to avoid breaking directly into an area where price is likely to face resistance from prior swing highs/lows.
-
Only when all of these checks align does the EA open a position, with predefined stop-loss and take-profit levels set automatically.
Built-in risk management
Risk control was treated as a core part of the system design, not an afterthought:
-
Daily loss protection that automatically halts trading once a daily drawdown threshold is reached, resuming the next trading day
-
An automatic circuit-breaker that pauses trading after a run of losing trades in the same session, to avoid compounding losses during unfavorable conditions
-
Spread filtering measured in real account currency rather than raw points, so behavior stays consistent across brokers with different pricing conventions
-
A volatility spike filter that avoids entering during abnormal, erratic candles
-
A hard ceiling on maximum stop-loss distance, independent of the size of the setup, to keep worst-case risk per trade bounded
-
Optional filtering of specific hours of the day that have historically shown weaker performance for this strategy
Together these features are designed to keep the equity curve smooth and to respect the kind of daily and overall loss limits commonly required by proprietary trading firm challenge accounts, without needing manual supervision.
Dashboard and monitoring
The EA displays a live on-chart panel showing current spread status, today's stop-loss count, running profit/loss, drawdown level relative to your configured limit, and open position details - so you always have a clear view of the EA's current state at a glance, without needing to dig through the terminal's history tab.
Technical specifications

-
Setup: fully standalone - no external indicators, DLLs, or template files required

Configuration
Lot sizing can be set to a fixed manual lot or a percentage-of-balance risk model, so the EA can be scaled to different account sizes. Stop-loss/take-profit behavior, daily loss limits, and hour-based filtering are all adjustable from the Inputs tab, allowing the EA to be tuned to a trader's personal risk tolerance or a specific challenge account's rules.
Testing methodology
All performance shown in the product screenshots was generated using Every Tick based on real ticks at 99% modeling quality in the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester, using real historical spread data. This is the most rigorous backtesting mode available in MT5. As with any trading system, past performance does not guarantee future results, and market conditions can change. We recommend running the EA on a demo account first to become familiar with its behavior before committing real capital.
Updates and support
The EA is actively maintained, with updates released as testing and market conditions warrant. For questions, setup help, or to report an issue, please use the product comments section or the built-in MQL5 chat system.
