Breakout and Pullback Continuation Strategy for MT5
Section 1: Context and Core Value
Timing Breakout Retests Without Entering Prematurely
Traders frequently react to initial breakout candles and enter positions immediately, only to face an immediate retracement that hits their stop loss. Entering at the peak of an initial expansion often positions an entry right before a corrective phase begins. In addition, volatile retest wicks can trigger tight stops during structural retests, causing hesitation just as a valid continuation setup develops. The fundamental challenge centers on timing: entering during the initial expansion rather than waiting for structural confirmation after the retracement.
BreakoutPullbackGo addresses this execution timing. The algorithm detects range expansions, tracks the subsequent retracement into broken structure, and identifies when directional momentum resumes. Rather than signaling during initial breakout volatility, the tool displays an alert once the retest phase satisfies predefined continuation criteria. Filtering parameters evaluate structural validity to reduce exposure to false expansion moves, giving traders a structured view of trend continuation phases.
The system is designed for active trading sessions across liquid instruments. Markets characterized by clear trend development and healthy trading volume provide the conditions best aligned with this breakout-and-retest detection model.
Section 2: Entry Logic and Trade Management
When an upward trend structure is confirmed and price action prints a directional bullish expansion candle following a completed pullback, BreakoutPullbackGo signals potential trend resumption with a green arrow. The entry trigger corresponds to the open of the subsequent candle. The logic applies symmetrically to short setups: when bearish order flow resumes and price breaks out of the pullback structure with a strong selling candle, a red arrow forms for an entry on the next candle open.
Stop Loss levels are automatically calculated beyond the most recent structural swing high or low, incorporating a volatility buffer to account for normal market noise. The risk-to-reward structure utilizes a structured 4-tier Take Profit ladder:
- TP1 at 0.5R: Structured for early risk reduction and partial profit-taking.
- TP2 at 0.8R: Targets balanced continuation moves during regular volatility.
- TP3 at 1.2R: Designed to capture extended trend expansions.
- TP4 at 2.0R: Acts as an extended target during sustained, high-momentum trends.
All signals follow a strict non-repainting calculation model. Once the current candle closes, the signal arrow, Stop Loss, and all Take Profit levels lock permanently onto the chart. Values do not recalculate, shift, or disappear on subsequent bars.

Signal Filtering (Signal Brake)
Sideways consolidation and two-sided liquidity wicks can generate repeated false signals. The Signal Brake logic is intended to reduce this:
- Limits rapid BUY/SELL flip-flopping in tight consolidation ranges.
- Restricts new same-direction signals while a prior setup is still active.
- Requires a minimum R-distance before the next signal can trigger.
On-Chart Historical Backtest Panel
A built-in panel summarizes how signals performed on historical data for the current settings:
- Historical hit-rate breakdown across TP1, TP2, TP3, and TP4.
- Sample size shown for the configured lookback period.
- Highlights which TP level had the best historical hit-rate for that sample.
