Description
Evil Doji is a technical analysis indicator that visualizes the false breakout (Fakey) pattern on the chart. It builds dynamic support and resistance levels based on the last N bars, tracks a breakout of the level followed by a price return, and plots a signal arrow on the confirmation bar — after that bar closes, without changing position on later ticks or history recalculation. The indicator does not open or close trades. It marks the points where the pattern has formed; the decision to enter, and its execution, remain with the trader or with a separate trading robot.
Relation to the FBH ecosystem
Evil Doji is developed as part of the FBH ecosystem, which brings together products based on the False Breakout Hunter strategy. Besides the indicator, the ecosystem includes the False Breakout Hunter (FBH Expert) advisor for automated trading.
How Evil Doji works
- Builds the level using one of three modes: extremes (High/Low), candle bodies (Open/Close), or Typical Price.
- Tracks a price breakout of the level followed by a return into the range.
- Filters signals by the ratio of candle body size to bar range, screening out part of the impulse bars.
- Plots the signal arrow on the confirmation bar after it closes.
- When sound is enabled, plays the selected .wav file from the MQL5/Sounds folder.
Key features
- Three level calculation modes. Extremes, candle bodies, or Typical Price — choose the one that fits your instrument and analysis style.
- No repaint. The arrow is fixed only after the confirmation bar closes and does not move or disappear afterward.
- Candle body filter. Adjustable body-to-range ratio threshold that screens out part of the impulse bars.
- Visual levels. HighLevel and LowLevel lines with customizable colors, each can be shown or hidden independently.
- Sound alerts. Supports any .wav file, with a check that the sound actually played.
- Full visual customization. Colors, line width, arrow size and offset are all set in the parameters.

Input parameters
Strategy logic:
- LevelMode — level calculation mode (0=Extremes, 1=Bodies, 2=Typical price). Default 0.
- PeriodsForLevel — lookback period for extremes (default 20)
- BreakoutSizePips — minimum breakout size in pips (2.5)
- UseBodyFilter — enable the candle body filter
- BodySizeMaxRatio — maximum body-to-range ratio (0.25) — value confirmed through detailed optimization. For your own optimization runs, a step of 0.01 is recommended.
Visual settings:
- ColorHighLevel / ColorLowLevel — level line colors
- ColorBuyArrow / ColorSellArrow — arrow colors
- ArrowOffsetPips — arrow offset from price in pips (5)
- ShowHighLevel / ShowLowLevel — show level lines
- LineWidthLevel — line width (2)
- ArrowSize — arrow size (3)
Sound alerts:
- PlaySoundOnSignal — enable sound on signal
- SoundFileName — file name (from the MQL5/Sounds folder)
Other:
- NoRepaint — do not repaint the signal until the confirmation bar closes (true is recommended)
Usage example
- Attach the indicator to the chart of the instrument and timeframe you want.
- Wait for price to break a level and return back into the range.
- Once the confirmation bar closes, the indicator plots the signal arrow and, if enabled, plays a sound.
- The decision to enter a trade is made independently, either manually or with a separate trading robot.
Compatibility
- Platform: MetaTrader 5.
- Timeframe: any; default parameters are tuned for M5.
- Symbol: any symbol with candle data available; default parameters were tested on USD/JPY.
