NY Box Breakout is our flagship product: the top-performing expert advisor in historical testing across our entire lineup, tested on data from 2020 to the present. It implements "box theory" (opening range breakout): it trades the breakout of the range the market forms right at the start of the New York session, with strictly defined risk management and at most one trade per day.
How it works:
Each day, the 15-minute candle starting at 9:30 New York time defines the "box": its high and its low. The instant that candle closes, the EA places two pending orders at once — a Buy Stop at the box high and a Sell Stop at the box low — as an OCO pair: whichever triggers first automatically cancels the other. The stop loss sits on the opposite side of the box itself (a long uses the box low as its SL; a short uses the box high), so the risk distance is always that day's box height. The take profit is dynamic, based on the daily ATR of the last few days (3 by default), so it adapts to the market's actual current volatility instead of using a fixed pip target. If neither order triggers within the configured time window (plus a grace period), both are cancelled; if a position is still open at a configurable deadline time, it is force-closed. It includes a per-weekday filter, individually switchable for each day.
Risk management:
Risk per trade is defined as a percentage of current equity (RiskPercent), not a fixed amount - position size adjusts automatically as your account balance changes. If not even the broker's minimum lot respects the target risk, the trade is skipped rather than over-risking.
Configurable parameters:
- Exact (New York) time of the candle that defines the box, and your server's time offset from New York (IMPORTANT: adjust this to your broker)
- Validity window for the pending orders, with a grace period
- Forced close time for open positions
- Daily ATR period and multiplier used for the take profit
- Risk per trade (% of equity) and the maximum allowed risk-overshoot factor
- Per-weekday filter, individually switchable Monday through Friday
This product trades with pending orders (not at market), opens at most one trade per day, and while it defaults to XAUUSD, it works on any symbol you attach it to.
Note on the weekday filter: it ships with Thursday and Friday enabled, and Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday disabled, reflecting what performed best in historical testing with the default settings - this is a starting point, not a guarantee it holds going forward. Review it against your own data.
