Caelion Gold Pro is a basket Expert Advisor for XAUUSD on a hedging account, H1 chart. Eight strategy families trade side by side; positions are added at fixed steps without multiplying lots, and each basket closes at a common target. Four presets are built in and chosen from the Preset input. Strategy Tester, IC Markets XAUUSD, 2025, USD 5,000, 1:100: largest equity drawdown 46.8% on the default preset and 19.8% on the other three; no preset ended in a stop-out. This is a single year of simulation, not a long record and not live results.
Quick start
- Open an XAUUSD H1 chart on a hedging account.
- Drag the EA onto the chart.
- In Inputs, open Preset and pick one.
- Leave the terminal running; a VPS is recommended.
Key features
- Default settings are the Max Profit preset, the one with the largest net profit in the 2019 to 2026 MT5 tests. In the 2025 MT4 test the three protected presets traded alike and finished with a lower drawdown (19.8%) than Max Profit (46.8%).
- Three more presets ship inside the EA: Shield, Aggressive and Balanced. Each one is described with its own result in the user guide.
- Choose your preset from the Preset list, the first input in the EA settings. No file to download or load.
- The broker clock is found automatically. The EA works out your broker's time zone and summer time and trades the same hours for every buyer, in any country.
- A no-add window from 21:00 to 01:00 on the strategy clock: during the thin hours around the daily gold break, open baskets keep their exits and stops but add no new levels.
- A loose basket stop at 55% of balance as a safety net. It did not trigger in the 2025 test.
- Every input is described in the user guide.
How it trades
Caelion Gold Pro is a basket Expert Advisor built for XAUUSD on a hedging account. Eight independent strategy families run side by side, each with its own signal timeframe (M5 to M15), its own trading hours and its own direction: six buy, two sell. A family enters only at the open of a new bar, when two separate momentum readings taken from closed candles agree. Entry decisions never use a forming candle.
When price moves against an open basket, the EA can add positions of the same size at fixed price steps, then closes the whole basket at a common profit target. This is grid averaging. Lots are never multiplied (no martingale), but total exposure grows while a basket is losing. That is the price of the method, and it is why the protection inputs exist.
Presets and MetaTrader 4 results
- Max Profit (default): USD 5,000 to USD 25,030, net profit 20,030, profit factor 4.09, drawdown 46.8%.
- Shield, Aggressive and Balanced: net profit 22,600, profit factor 4.57, drawdown 19.8%, margin level never under 181%. The three presets made identical trades in this test (basket stops and margin gates did not trigger in 2025).
All figures: 2025 only, IC Markets XAUUSD history, H1, USD 5,000 start, 1:100 leverage, MetaTrader 4 Strategy Tester. No preset ended in a stop-out.
A note on the presets
On this one MT4 year, the other three presets made more than Max Profit at less than half the drawdown, because they do not use the 21:00 to 01:00 no-add window. In our longer MetaTrader 5 test, from 2019 to 2026, the order was the other way round and Max Profit came out ahead, so Max Profit stays the default. One year is a short sample. If you want a lower drawdown, Shield is a reasonable choice to start with.
How to choose a preset
The MQL5 Market does not deliver .set files, so the presets are built into the EA. Drag the EA onto an XAUUSD H1 chart, open the Inputs tab and choose Preset, the first input: Max Profit, Shield, Aggressive, Balanced or Custom. Custom uses the individual inputs exactly as you type them; a saved .set file only matters with Custom.
Clock settings in the Strategy Tester
On a live account the EA detects the broker clock on its own. In the MT4 Strategy Tester with custom or third-party history data, the summer-time shift of the server may not match your broker's. If you backtest that way, set the input InpClockMode to 0 (manual) and InpSessionDSTMode to 3 (US). Our own 2025 tests used exactly these two settings. If the daily gold break does not fall where the EA expects it, the EA prints a warning in the journal, so check the journal after the first run.
Requirements
- XAUUSD (or your broker's gold symbol), H1 chart, hedging account.
- A VPS or an always-on terminal. Exits are managed by the EA; broker-side stop-loss and take-profit orders are not attached.
- The tests used a USD 5,000 start.
Important limits
These are simulations on past data, not live results, and they are not a promise of future results. The settings were chosen on the same history they are shown on, and the next drawdown can be deeper than any shown here. Grid baskets can lose much more than a single trade; gaps, slippage and rejected orders can push a loss past any configured limit, and a deposit can be lost entirely. Run the EA on a demo account first with your broker's real spread, commission and swap.
