2025 is the most recent full calendar year in the published MT5 backtests of 9 of our EAs. We took each test's closed trades, split them by year, and asked one question: how did 2025 compare with the other full years of the same test? We compared its return with the median of the other full years and put the drawdown of each year next to it. This article uses backtests only. It contains no forward-account figures. Figures are as of 2026-10-28.
The answer first
- 2025 closed positive in all 9 tests. In 5 it is above the median of the other full years, and in 4 it is below.
- The largest shortfall is ATLAS PORTFOLIO: +25.7% in 2025 against a median of +108.5% for its other 6 full years, 82.8 points lower. BITCOIN COMET (+32.0% against +111.3%) and GOLD VIPER (+63.9% against +123.6%) are also well below.
- The largest lead is GOLD KING: 2025 is its best full year at +164.5% against a median of +56.0%. It is also its deepest year: the closed-balance drawdown inside 2025 was 7.5%, against no more than 2.0% in any of its other 6 full years.
- In 3 tests 2025 had the shallowest yearly closed-balance drawdown of all their full years: GOLD TRIPWIRE (1.8%), BITCOIN COMET (5.8%) and GOLD NEURON (6.1%, out of 22 full years).
How we counted
- Each closed trade is assigned to the calendar year in which it closed. Commission and swap are included. Open positions are not valued, so every figure here is on closed balance.
- The return of a year is its closed result divided by the closed balance at the start of that year. Years are compared by percent, not by amount, because a compounding EA earns larger amounts in later years.
- Only full calendar years (January to December) are used. 2026 is covered only in part in 8 of the tests and is left out. BITCOIN COMET's test ends on 2025.12.31, so 2025 is its last year.
- The median of the other full years is the middle value of every full year except 2025; with an even number of years it is the mean of the two middle ones.
- The drawdown columns are the largest peak-to-trough fall of the closed balance inside a single full calendar year, with the balance at the start of the year as the first peak. This is smaller than an equity drawdown, which includes open trades, and it is not the drawdown of the whole test.
- TRINITY and AIFW are not in this article: the original report files behind their published backtests are not in our breakdown, so we could not split them by year.

Sorted by 2025 minus the median of the other full years, largest first. All columns come from the same yearly breakdown of the trade list. The tests cover different periods, symbols and data quality, so compare 2025 with the other years of the same EA and do not rank the EAs against each other.
ATLAS PORTFOLIO: a positive year that was its second weakest
ATLAS PORTFOLIO made +25.7% in 2025. Of its 7 full years only 2019 (+22.1%) and 2020 (+10.6%) were lower. The four years before 2025 ran from +107.4% to +203.8%. The closed-balance drawdown inside 2025 was 16.3%; inside 2022, its best year at +203.8%, it was 19.2%. So 2025 did not come with an unusually deep drawdown. It came with a much smaller return for a similar depth.
BITCOIN COMET and GOLD VIPER: lower returns, different depths
BITCOIN COMET's 2025 return of +32.0% ranks 6 of 8, but its closed-balance drawdown inside the year, 5.8%, is the shallowest of its 8 full years. GOLD VIPER's +63.9% ranks 6 of 7, and its yearly drawdown of 16.7% is the second deepest of its 7 full years, after 19.6% in 2023. Two EAs with a weaker 2025, one with a quiet year and one with a rough one.
GOLD KING: the best year was also the deepest
GOLD KING's 2025 is the top of its 7 full years at +164.5%, and it made 655 trades, more than any other full year of its test. Its closed-balance drawdown inside 2025 was 7.5%. In the other 6 full years it was between 0.8% and 2.0%. That is closed balance by calendar year. The largest relative equity drawdown in its MT5 report for the whole test, which includes open trades, is 91.3%.
ETHEREUM TREND and GOLD NEURON
ETHEREUM TREND's 2025 return of +71.9% is its second best year, against a median of +6.85% for the other 6. It made only 28 trades in 2025, so one or two trades can move a year a long way. GOLD NEURON's 2025 ranks 7 of 22 at +47.2%, with a yearly closed-balance drawdown of 6.1%, the shallowest in its 22 full years.
How to use this before you judge an EA
- Look at the most recent full year next to the median of the earlier years, not next to the average or the best year.
- Read the return of that year next to the drawdown of the same year. A weaker year with a normal drawdown and a strong year with an unusual drawdown say different things.
- One year is one year. A test with 7 full years has only 7 values; a single weak or strong 2025 does not show that anything has changed.
