From Tokyo with Tech: AI Forecasts for Today's Economic Releases (Fri 30 Oct 2026) and Last Results
Every trading day I publish AI forecasts for the day's key economic releases before they come out, and score every one of them the next day, misses included. The forecasts are made by Claude, an AI model, from the market consensus, the latest headlines (Bloomberg, central banks and other news) and how the currency pairs and gold reacted to the same releases over the last 3 years. The major currencies are covered, and also MXN, ZAR, SEK, NOK and SGD.
Today in one line: Friday opens with Tokyo CPI just before the Bank of Japan decision. Mexico's flash Q3 GDP follows, and then Canada's August GDP and the US Q3 Employment Cost Index come out at the same minute. Markets are already leaning hawkish after Warsh's Fed hinted at a December hike and the Bank of Canada raised rates.
Today's forecasts: the number
| GMT | JST | Release | Consensus / previous | AI: the number | Below / in line / above |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| 12:00 | 21:00 | MXN GDP q/q | 0.2%* / 1.4% | Above 43% | 42% / 15% / 43% |
| 12:00 | 21:00 | MXN GDP NSA y/y | 2.0%* / 2.1% | Below 44% | 44% / 13% / 43% |

| 12:30 | 21:30 | USD Employment Cost Index q/q | 0.8% / 0.9% | In line 42% | 25% / 42% / 33% |
The AI's most likely outcome against the consensus, with the three probabilities. Times are GMT and Japan time (JST).
* For currencies that ForexFactory does not cover (MXN, ZAR, SEK, NOK, SGD) the number to beat is the forecast published in the MetaTrader 5 economic calendar, not a market consensus.
Today's forecasts: the market in the first 15 minutes
| GMT | Release | Pair | AI: direction after 15 min | Usual 15-min move | 1 in 4 moved more than | AI: bigger than usual? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23:30 | JPY Tokyo Core CPI y/y | USD/JPY | Down 53% | 6.0 pips | 11.7 pips | Bigger 52% |
| 12:00 | MXN GDP q/q, GDP NSA y/y | USD/MXN | Down 52% | 98.0 pips | 178.7 pips | Smaller 55% |
| 12:30 | CAD GDP m/m | USD/CAD | Down 51% | 4.5 pips | 13.7 pips | Bigger 56% |
| 12:30 | USD Employment Cost Index q/q | USD/JPY | Up 52% | 12.8 pips | 24.8 pips | Smaller 55% |
| 12:30 | USD Employment Cost Index q/q | Gold | Down 53% | 2.64 USD | 3.89 USD | Bigger 62% |
Direction is the price 15 minutes after the release against the price at the release minute. The usual move is the median of that distance over the last 3 years; one release in four moved more than the next column. Pips for FX pairs, US dollars for gold.
Why
23:30 GMT (08:30 JST), JPY Tokyo Core CPI y/y
- Tokyo core CPI jumped from 1.8% to 2.7% last month. The 2.6% consensus expects a small easing, while high energy costs from the Middle East conflict point to upside risk.
- investingLive says the BoJ is weighing a December hike, so a firm print could support the yen a few hours before the BoJ decision.
- Tokyo CPI often matches consensus at one decimal, and USD/JPY reactions have been mixed: 15-minute moves ranged from near zero to about 28 pips.
12:00 GMT (21:00 JST), MXN GDP q/q, GDP NSA y/y
- The MT5 forecast of 0.2% q/q points to a cooldown after Q2's 1.4% rebound. These forecasts are model-based, so the surprise risk is roughly balanced either way.
- FXStreet reports the peso fell after strong US GDP and hot inflation revived Fed hike bets, so the starting position already leans against the peso.
- The 15-minute window ends before the 12:30 US data. Recent flash GDP releases mostly saw USD/MXN drift lower.
12:30 GMT (21:30 JST), CAD GDP m/m
- August GDP is expected to rise 0.2% after a flat July. The earlier advance estimate usually anchors both the consensus and the actual, so an in-line print is likely.
- The Bank of Canada just hiked to 2.5% and is data-dependent, Commerzbank notes. A firm print plus the September advance estimate could support CAD.
- The US Employment Cost Index comes out at the same minute, which makes it more likely the move beats USD/CAD's small 4.5-pip median.
12:30 GMT (21:30 JST), USD Employment Cost Index q/q
- The Employment Cost Index printed 0.9% in each of the last two quarters, against a 0.8% consensus. A robust labor market makes an upside miss slightly more likely than a downside one.
- Bloomberg and FXStreet report December Fed hike bets after strong Q3 GDP and PCE data. A firm wage print would back that view, lifting the dollar and weighing on gold.
- Gold near $4,000 moves far more in dollar terms than it did across most of the three-year sample, so beating the $2.64 median is more likely than usual.

* For currencies that ForexFactory does not cover (MXN, ZAR, SEK, NOK, SGD) the number to beat is the forecast published in the MetaTrader 5 economic calendar, not a market consensus.
Running total since Thursday 29 October 2026: the number 2 of 3 (67%), direction 3 of 4 (75%), size 1 of 3 (33%).
For comparison: always picking the most common outcome would have scored 67% on the number, a coin flip gets about 50% on direction, and always giving the more common answer on size would have scored 100% (gold now trades far higher than three years ago, so its dollar moves tend to beat the 3-year median). The 15-minute move stayed under the 1-in-4 line in 4 of 4 cases (100%), against about 75% expected from history.
How the forecasts are scored
- The number: the AI's most likely outcome (below, in line with or above the ForexFactory consensus, or the MetaTrader 5 calendar forecast for currencies ForexFactory does not cover) against the actual value in the MetaTrader 5 economic calendar, compared at the consensus' decimal precision.
- Direction: the price 15 minutes after the release against the price at the release minute (M1 bars from one broker's MT5 demo feed). A zero move is not scored.
- Size: whether the absolute 15-minute move was larger than the 3-year median shown in the table.
- Only forecasts published at least 5 minutes before the release are scored. Every forecast and result is kept in a hash-chained log, so nothing can be changed after the fact.
These are AI forecasts for research and education, not trading advice. Releases can surprise either way, and the market can move against the surprise.
The usual moves come from News Impact Statistics, an indicator for MetaTrader 5 that measures them on your own broker's prices and shows the next releases on your chart.
