Odin Prime Gold is a fully automated Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 that trades XAUUSD (gold) only. This manual covers version 1.26.
Before you start: requirements
Odin gives results matching our tests only when every item below is met. The broker server time and the Max bars setting are the two most often missed.
| Requirement | What you need | Why it matters |
| Symol | XAUUSD (gold), including broker suffixes such as XAUUSD.m or GOLD | Odin is built and tuned for gold only |
| Broker server time | GMT+2 (winter) / GMT+3 (summer) | Odin builds its levels from the broker's daily candles. Other time zones (for example Exness, GMT+0) give different trades and can miss the Friday close |
| Account type | Raw/ECN account with low gold spreads | Odin uses tight stops and trailing; wide spreads (standard accounts) cut deeply into each trade |
| Margin mode | Hedging | Lets both engines hold positions independently. Netting works, but with one trade at a time |
| Account currency | USD recommended | Auto lot sizing switches to Risk % mode on non-USD accounts, including cent accounts |
| Minimum deposit | $100 minimum, $200 or more recommended | At Medium risk, one stopped trade on each engine is about 3.8% of the balance |
| Leverage | 1:100 minimum, 1:500 recommended | Room for margin on both engines |
| MT5 Max bars in chart | At least 20,000 (100,000 or Unlimited recommended) | Engine B needs about 10,000 one-minute bars of history |
| VPS | Strongly recommended, located near the broker's server | Uninterrupted 24/5 operation and fast execution |
Recommended broker and VPS
We recommend VT Markets with a Raw ECN account, running Odin on a VPS close to the broker's server.
Brokers we have tested on: VT Markets, TMGM, RoboForex, Ultima Markets and Fusion Markets. All of them use GMT+2/+3 server time and offer Raw/ECN accounts with low gold spreads.
Avoid:
• Standard (non-ECN) accounts with wide gold spreads, for example XM standard accounts.
• Brokers on a non-standard server time zone, such as Exness.
VPS options:
1. Broker VPS. VT Markets offers a VPS for eligible clients. Check VT Markets' website or your account manager for the current conditions.
2. MQL5 VPS. Rent it directly from MT5 (Navigator → right-click your account → Register a virtual server). MT5 picks the location with the lowest ping to your broker. Migrate the terminal with Odin attached and it runs on the VPS.
3. Your own VPS or dedicated server. Choose a data centre close to your broker's trade server for the lowest latency. (I recommend Lightnode)
Whatever you choose, check that the VPS's MT5 has Max bars in chart set to at least 20,000. Many VPS setups lower this to save memory; if yours is already 20,000 or more, there's nothing to change.
Installation and first run
Setup takes about five minutes; the panel reads ARMED | Ready when Odin is working correctly.
1. Buy and download Odin Prime Gold from the MQL5 Market inside MT5 (Market tab → Purchased).
2. Set Max bars in chart: Tools → Options → Charts → Max bars in chart = Unlimited (or at least 20,000), then restart MT5. If it's already Unlimited or 20,000 or more, leave it as it is; no change or restart needed.
3. Allow algo trading: Tools → Options → Expert Advisors → tick "Allow algorithmic trading".
4. Open an XAUUSD chart. Any timeframe works. Scroll back about a week on an M1 chart once, so MT5 downloads the history.
5. Attach Odin: drag Odin Prime Gold from Navigator → Market onto the chart.
6. Choose your settings in the Inputs tab. The defaults (Auto lot sizing, Medium risk) are a good start. On the Common tab, tick "Allow Algo Trading".
7. Turn on Algo Trading with the button on the MT5 toolbar.
8. Check the panel at the top left of the chart. Within a minute or two it should read ARMED | Ready.
Odin doesn't trade every day. Some days it takes one or two trades, some days none. A day without trades is normal.
Settings reference
Every setting has a working default; most users only change the lot sizing and risk level.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
| Allow Trades | On | Off stops new entries; open trades are still managed and protected |
| Lot sizing mode | Auto | Auto (scales with balance), Fixed lot, or Risk % per trade |
| Risk level (Auto mode) | Medium | Low, Medium or High (see the next section) |
| Fixed lot | 0.01 | Lot size for both engines in Fixed mode |
| Risk % per trade | 1.0 | Planned loss at the stop in Risk % mode, 0.1–5% |
| Max lot per trade | 0 | Hard cap on any single trade; 0 = no cap |
| Magic number (Engine A) | 10180111 | Order ID for Engine A; change only when Odin has no open trades |
| Magic number (Engine B) | 10180222 | Order ID for Engine B; must differ from Engine A |
| Enable Engine A | On | Turns Engine A on or off |
| Engine A Buy Only | Off | Engine A takes buy trades only |
| Enable Engine B | On | Turns Engine B on or off |
| Engine B Allow Buy / Allow Sell | On / On | Restricts Engine B's trade direction |
| Trade Monday … Friday | On | Choose the weekdays Odin may open trades |
| Avoid NFP days / Avoid FOMC days | On / On | Skips new entries on US news days |
| Use live economic calendar | On | Uses MT5's calendar live; a built-in date list is the fallback |
| Require news calendar coverage | On | Blocks entries live if no news data is available for the day |
| Max Drawdown Percent | 0 (off) | Closes Odin's trades and pauses when equity falls this % below its peak. Enter 25 for 25% |
| Pause after drawdown until next day | On | Resumes the next day with a fresh peak; off = stays paused |
| Avoid weekend exposure | On | Closes Odin's trades at the Friday close time |
| Friday close hour / minute | 23 / 45 | Friday close time, in broker server time |
| Show panel | On | Shows the status panel on the chart |
| RecoveryID | 0 | For support use only. Leave at 0 unless asked to change it |
Other modes:
• Fixed lot: both engines trade the lot size you enter, whatever the balance.
• Risk % per trade: both engines risk the same % at their stop; Engine B's lots come out smaller because its stop is wider.
• Max lot per trade caps any single trade in every mode.
Reading the on-chart panel
The first line of the panel shows Odin's current state; ARMED | Ready means everything is working.
| Panel shows | Meaning | What to do |
| ARMED | Ready | Running normally, waiting for its conditions | Nothing |
| NEW ENTRIES DISARMED | Allow Trades is off | Turn Allow Trades on if you want new trades |
| Loading price history | MT5 hasn't given Odin enough history | Set Max bars in chart to Unlimited (at least 20,000) and restart MT5 |
| Connection / Algo Trading unavailable | Terminal offline or Algo Trading off | Check the connection and the Algo Trading button |
| DRAWDOWN PAUSE | The Max Drawdown limit was reached | Odin resumes the next day, or stays paused if that option is off |
| MAGIC COLLISION | Another EA or trade uses Odin's magic number | Give each EA its own magic numbers |
| UNCERTAIN REQUEST - RECONCILING | The broker's reply to an order was unclear | Wait; Odin checks the broker's records before trading again |
| SYMBOL NOT SUPPORTED - ENTRIES DISABLED | The symbol can't take stop-loss orders | Use a standard XAUUSD symbol |
The second line shows the day's starting balance and the equity peak used by the drawdown limit. The third line shows the news source: the live MT5 calendar, or the built-in date list. The last line is Odin's latest message and can stay on screen after the situation has cleared.
Troubleshooting
Most issues come from one of three causes: MT5's Max bars setting, the broker's server time, or the account type.
Panel stuck on "Loading price history"
Engine B needs about 10,000 one-minute bars (roughly six trading days). If MT5's Max bars in chart is lower, for example 5,000, Odin can never finish loading and Engine B never trades.
1. Tools → Options → Charts → Max bars in chart = Unlimited, or at least 20,000. If it's already that high, skip this and step 2; the cause is elsewhere, so check the Experts tab.
2. Restart MT5.
3. Open an XAUUSD M1 chart and scroll back about a week.
4. Reattach Odin; the panel should change to Ready within a minute or two.
Wiping the terminal's history on a schedule (for example at weekend restarts) is fine, as long as it reloads before trading starts.
Odin opens no trades
• Check the panel first (see Reading the on-chart panel).
• One or two trades a day, or none, is normal. Odin also sits out NFP and FOMC days, holidays and Friday evenings.
• Check the Experts tab for lines starting ODIN_CHECK or ODIN_REQUEST: these mean the broker rejected an order, and the line includes the reason code.
Results differ from another broker or from our results
• Server time: Odin uses the broker's daily candles. A broker not on GMT+2/+3, such as Exness, gives different daily levels and different trades.
• Spreads: standard accounts have wider gold spreads than Raw/ECN accounts, which hurts Odin's tight stops.
• Backtests: use "Every tick based on real ticks" and a broker with close to 100% real tick history. A test with low real-tick quality (for example 31%) isn't reliable.
Log shows "is not XAUUSD: price-scaled compatibility mode"
Odin didn't recognise the symbol as gold. Version 1.25 and later recognise brokers that list XAUUSD with a non-standard currency setup; update to the latest version.
"Magic collision" message
In 1.26 and later this appears only for a real conflict: another EA or a second Odin copy using the same magic numbers. Give each EA its own magic numbers. If the top line of the panel reads Ready, the collision has already cleared.
Daylight saving time changes
Odin reads trading hours from the broker automatically; nothing needs to be entered. In the week between the EU and US clock changes, check the broker's gold trading hours. If gold closes before 23:45 server time on that Friday, set the Friday close time earlier.
