After years of watching traders get stopped out not because their direction was wrong, but because they entered too late in the day - I built this tool to answer one question first, every time: How much range does this day still have left?
Gold moves fast. Sometimes it moves in one direction for hours. And when it does, the temptation to jump in is real. But if the daily range has already expanded 130%, 150%, or more - that "strong move" you're chasing might already be on borrowed time. This indicator puts that context right on your chart, so you see it before you click.
What It Does
Gold Daily Range MT5 is a live range context dashboard built specifically for XAUUSD traders on MetaTrader 5. It tracks today's developing range in real time, compares it against the 14-day Average Daily Range (ADR), and gives you an immediate read on how much of the typical daily move has already been consumed.
It does not tell you to buy or sell. It does not open or manage trades. What it does is give you the daily range picture that most traders are missing when they enter - and that picture changes everything.
What You See on the Panel
The panel shows you the live Today Range, Day High and Day Low as they develop, and the ADR calculated from completed candles. A visual progress bar shows exactly how much of the ADR has been used - whether you're at 40%, 80%, 120%, or pushing past 150%.
From there, the panel gives you the full picture:
ADR 100% projection levels show where the typical daily range would max out from today's open. ADR 120% extension levels mark the stretched zone - the area where range exhaustion becomes a real possibility. Both the high and low projections are plotted directly on the chart with clean right-side price labels so you can see them at a glance, even mid-trade.
Previous Day High, Previous Day Low, and Previous Day Range are included as reference levels - these are the areas where price often reacts, stalls, or flips. The Day Open is also marked.
The Range State reads Early, Healthy, Active, Extended, or Exhausted depending on how the current range compares to ADR. The Trade Condition tells you whether there is Room Available, whether to Trade With Caution, or whether the day is effectively Exhausted. The Position Zone tells you where current price sits - upper, middle, or lower portion of today's developing range - along with Near Day High and Near Day Low context when price is approaching those extremes.
Why the ADR % Bar Matters More Than You Think
Most traders look at price and structure. Few look at how much daily range has already passed. But here is what experience teaches: a breakout at 30% ADR used is a very different situation from a breakout at 140% ADR used. Both can look identical on a 15-minute chart. Only one of them has meaningful room left.
When the panel shows high ADR usage, Exhausted Range, and price sitting near the Day High or Day Low - that combination is a signal to pause. Not necessarily to fade the move, but to recognize that the comfortable runway is gone and any entry from here carries a different risk profile.
This is exactly the scenario shown in the screenshot above. ADR used at 156%, State: Exhausted Range, Condition: Exhausted Day, and price compressing near the Day Low. That is not an entry setup. That is a "watch and wait" moment - and knowing the difference has saved more trades than any indicator signal ever could.
Alerts for Key Range Events
You do not need to watch the panel all day. The alert system covers the moments that matter: when ADR threshold levels are crossed, when a new Daily High or Low is printed, when price enters the Near High or Near Low zone, and when the range shifts into exhausted territory.
Alerts can be delivered as MT5 popup, sound, mobile push notification, or email. A cooldown system and high/low step filter keep notifications clean during fast, choppy movement - so you get the important alerts, not noise.
Panel Display Modes
Full mode shows the complete dashboard. Compact mode gives you back chart space when you need it. Screenshot mode sharpens the panel and labels for review or sharing. Minimized view keeps only the essential status visible when you want the least distraction.
The color logic is simple and readable: green for healthier range conditions, orange for caution, red and pink for exhausted or extended range states. You read the situation in under two seconds.
Built for Daily Trading, Not Just Screenshots
This panel is designed to live on your chart through a real trading session. It updates live as the candle builds, adjusts as the high and low move, and gives you a running read of where the day stands - not just a static end-of-day picture.
It works on XAUUSD and is compatible with other MetaTrader 5 symbols supported by your broker, though it is optimized for Gold's typical range behavior and the way intraday Gold trades tend to expand, exhaust, and consolidate.
Version 1.1 - What Changed
Version 1.1 is a significant step forward from the earlier daily high/low display. The panel now functions as a true daily range context dashboard rather than a simple level tracker. ADR projection and extension levels, the ADR Used progress bar, Previous Day High/Low/Range, Range State, Trade Condition, and Position Zone are all new in this version. The alert system has also been expanded and refined with cooldown logic.
How Experienced Traders Use This
Use it before entering any Gold trade after a significant intraday move. Check it when price is pushing toward or away from a daily extreme. Review it when the news has already caused a large spike and you are deciding whether to trade the continuation or step aside.
It does not replace your analysis, your structure work, or your risk management. What it does is answer the one question that often goes unasked: Is there still room in this day for the trade I am about to take?
Important Notes
All calculations are based on your broker's symbol data and server time. Daily candle construction, spread, digits, and session timing vary between brokers. If you see different values across accounts, this is normal broker data behavior and not an indicator issue. Test on a demo account first and verify how the levels respond to your broker's data before using it in a live session.
This is an informational and visual utility. It does not execute trades, modify orders, manage positions, or generate buy or sell signals. It contains no martingale, grid, or any automatic trading logic.
