How to Backtest Telegram Signals in MT5 and MT4 Before You Pay for a Channel
How to Backtest Telegram Signals in MT5 and MT4 Before You Pay for a Channel
Signal channels are easy to join and hard to judge. They post their best screenshots, not the trades that went wrong. The Backtest tab of the Telegram to MT5 Multi-Channel Copier replays a channel's whole history, message by message, against your own broker's prices, with the settings you would really trade it with. You see what the channel would have done in your account before you spend a cent on it.
No signal files to export, no Strategy Tester runs: the channel is read exactly the way the copier reads it when it trades live, and the report opens in your browser.

1. Why backtest a signal channel
Showing ten winning trades is easy. Showing the five hundred a channel actually posted is not. A backtest answers the questions a sales page never does:
- Is the channel real? Net result, win rate, profit factor and maximum drawdown of every signal it posted, not of the ones it chose to show.
- Does it fit your broker and your spread? A scalping channel with small targets can look great on paper and be break-even with your spread.
- How much of it could you really trade? Entries the price never reached, signals posted too late, messages that are not orders: the report shows what would actually have been executed.
2. What you need
- The copier application and the EA (MT5 or MT4). The Backtest tab is part of the copier: there is nothing else to buy.
- Your MetaTrader terminal open, with the EA running on a chart.
- Membership of the channel you want to test. The app reads it through your own Telegram account, so private and VIP channels work.
Setting up the app and the EA takes about 10 minutes and is explained in the setup guide.
3. Step by step
- Open the Backtest tab of the app.
- Choose the channel from the list (any channel, group or topic you are a member of).
- Choose how many days of history to test.
- Press ⚙ Use this EA's settings to test it with the configuration of the EA on your chart.
- Press 🔍 Analyze parsing first to check that the channel is read correctly (section 6).
- Press ▶ Backtest. The report opens in your browser.

4. Test it the way you would trade it
The same channel can give very different results depending on how you copy it: your lot, your spread, how many take profits you use, and whether signals open at market or wait as pending orders at their entry price.
That is why ⚙ Use this EA's settings exists: one click and the test uses the configuration of the EA on your chart, so the report reflects what your EA would really have done with that channel. You can also adjust the test by hand to try other options before changing your EA.
5. Reading the report
- Summary — net result, win rate, profit factor, maximum drawdown and number of signals.
- Equity curve — day by day, so you see the streaks, not only the final number.
- Results by day, week and month — compare them with what the channel publishes in its own weekly summaries.
- Results by symbol — useful for channels that trade gold, forex and indices together.
- Every signal on the chart — click any trade to see it on the price chart: entry, stop loss, every take profit and where it really closed.

6. Check the parsing first
🔍 Analyze parsing shows how every message of the channel was understood, without simulating anything. It takes seconds and tells you whether the channel can be copied at all: if its orders are recognised and its chatter is ignored, the backtest is meaningful. If something is misread, send the Support bundle from the app and I will check it.
7. What a backtest can and can't tell you
A backtest cannot tell you the future. It can tell you whether a channel is real, whether it fits your broker and your spread, and whether it is worth your money before you spend it. Keep in mind:
- The simulation is deliberately conservative: when the outcome of a trade is uncertain, it assumes the worse one.
- Results are in pips, and the money amounts are an estimate for a fixed lot, without commissions or swap.
- How far back you can test depends on the price history available in your terminal.
- Channels that post their signals as images cannot be tested.
8. FAQ
Is the backtester a separate product? No. It is included with the Telegram to MT5 / MT4 Multi-Channel Copier, whether you buy or rent it.
Does it work with MT4? Yes. The app is the same for both platforms.
Can I test a channel I am not a member of? No. The app reads channels through your own Telegram account, like the Telegram app itself.
Can I use it from the Strategy Tester? No, and you don't need to: the backtest runs in the app, with the EA running on a normal chart.
Why are my results different from the channel's? Usually spread, entries the price never reached, or the channel counting its results from the best entry of a zone. The results by day and the chart of every signal show you exactly where the difference comes from.
