Stock markets in Japan extended their rout, plunging 4.8% after coming back from a public holiday and driving USDJPY to temporarily fall once again below 112 this morning. Yesterday, USDJPY hit a new 1.5 year low when it touched 110.95, as investors rushed into safe-haven investments such as the Yen, Swiss Franc and Gold. Meanwhile, USDCAD is down 0.2% in early trading despite oil trading 4% higher, after a Wall Street Journal report published stated that OPEC was willing to cooperate on production cuts in oil, as investors remain sceptic to such headlines.

The economic calendar picks up as the week is slowly coming to an end, beginning with Flash GDP figures out of the Eurozone, which are forecasted to show a growth of 0.3% month-on-month for the final three months of 2015. The US will once again be in the spotlight, with the release of retail sales which have remained stubbornly low despite economists touting that savings from lower gas prices would motivate consumers to spend more in stores. Next, consumer sentiment in the US is expected to remain relatively unchanged at 92.6. Lastly, FOMC member William Dudley is scheduled to speak in New York following two consecutive days of testimony from FED Chair Janet Yellen.
