Pair Quant Arbitrage MT4

Pair Quant Arbitrage is a statistical pair-trading indicator for MetaTrader 4 designed to identify temporary relative imbalances between two financial instruments.

Instead of trying to predict the direction of one market in isolation, the indicator analyzes two instruments as a connected system. It evaluates the quality of their current relationship, measures their relative displacement, determines the potential direction of both pair legs, and displays a model-implied equilibrium reference directly on the price chart.

The analysis is built around four connected components:

  • Pair Alignment

  • Beta

  • Quant Deviation

  • Pair Price Implication

What Makes Pair Quant Arbitrage Different?

Many pair-trading tools display only a price ratio, a raw spread, or a separate deviation oscillator. These values may indicate that two instruments have moved apart, but they do not show what that divergence means on the actual price scale of the instrument being traded.

The distinctive feature of Pair Quant Arbitrage is its Pair Price Implication model.

The indicator translates the current behavior of the paired instrument into a Pair-Implied Price for the symbol currently open on the chart. This model-derived value is displayed directly alongside the real market price.

Pair-Implied Price is:

  • not the raw price of the second instrument;

  • not a simple normalized overlay;

  • not a moving average of the current symbol;

  • not a conventional price forecast;

  • not a guaranteed Take Profit level.

It is a dynamic equilibrium reference that accounts for the different price scales and movement sensitivity of the two instruments.

Each Pair-Implied Price value answers a practical question:

Based on the current behavior of the paired instrument and the recent relationship between the two markets, where would the current chart symbol be statistically expected to trade?

The distance between the real price and the Pair-Implied Price makes the relative imbalance visible in the native price units of the current chart.

Core Components

Pair Alignment

Pair Alignment evaluates how consistently the selected instruments are currently behaving in relation to each other.

A sufficiently strong reading indicates that the relationship may be suitable for relative-value analysis. A weak reading suggests that the instruments are behaving too independently for the detected deviation to be treated as a reliable pair condition.

Pair Alignment acts as the final entry-quality filter. A large Quant Deviation alone is not enough to activate an entry signal.

The relationship can be evaluated using price behavior or price returns. An optional absolute-value mode allows the strength of both positive and negative relationships to be analyzed.

Beta

Beta estimates how strongly one instrument responds to movements in the other.

Because paired instruments may have very different prices, volatility levels, and movement amplitudes, their raw movements cannot be compared directly. Beta provides the dynamic scaling required to translate the behavior of the paired symbol into the price context of the current chart symbol.

The sign of Beta is also used when calculating the direction of both pair legs:

  • a positive Beta normally produces opposite trade directions;

  • a negative Beta can produce the same trade direction for both instruments;

  • a zero Beta does not produce a valid pair-entry direction.

This allows the indicator to work correctly with both positively and negatively related instruments.

Quant Deviation

Quant Deviation measures how far the current relationship has moved away from its recent statistical equilibrium.

The displacement is evaluated relative to the pair’s own recent behavior, making the result easier to interpret across instruments with different prices and volatility characteristics.

A potential entry condition is generated only when:

  1. Quant Deviation reaches the configured entry region;

  2. Pair Alignment satisfies the selected relationship-quality requirement.

When Quant Deviation contracts toward the configured exit region, the indicator identifies a potential convergence or pair-exit condition.

The signal colors automatically represent the direction of the pair instrument currently open on the chart.

Pair Price Implication

Pair Price Implication brings the statistical pair model directly onto the main price chart.

When the indicator is attached to Symbol A, the behavior of Symbol B is mapped onto the price scale of Symbol A. When it is attached to Symbol B, the calculation is automatically reversed.

Pair-Implied Price is displayed as individual points or short segments for the calculated bars. This makes it possible to compare the real price with its model-implied counterpart without presenting the implied values as another continuously traded market.

The visual relationship can be interpreted as follows:

  • a small distance indicates that the pair is close to its modeled equilibrium;

  • an increasing distance indicates an expanding relative imbalance;

  • movement of the real price toward the implied values suggests convergence;

  • continued separation indicates that the imbalance is still developing.

Automatic Chart-Role Detection

The user selects Symbol A and Symbol B, while the indicator automatically detects which of them is currently open on the chart.

No manual chart-role setting is required:

  • on the Symbol A chart, Symbol B is mapped to the scale of Symbol A;

  • on the Symbol B chart, Symbol A is mapped to the scale of Symbol B;

  • Quant Deviation colors and signal buffers automatically adapt to the current chart symbol.

For complete chart-specific signals and Pair Price Implication, the indicator should be attached to a chart of either Symbol A or Symbol B.

If it is attached to a third symbol, the relationship metrics can still be calculated, but direction-dependent colors, Pair-Implied Price, and notifications are disabled because that chart has no defined role within the selected pair.

Signal Direction Logic

The indicator calculates the potential direction of both instruments rather than producing a conventional single-symbol BUY or SELL signal.

For a positive Beta:

  • negative Quant Deviation: BUY Symbol A / SELL Symbol B;

  • positive Quant Deviation: SELL Symbol A / BUY Symbol B.

For a negative Beta:

  • negative Quant Deviation: BUY Symbol A / BUY Symbol B;

  • positive Quant Deviation: SELL Symbol A / SELL Symbol B.

The final entry state is activated only after the Pair Alignment filter is satisfied.

An exit state appears when the relative displacement contracts into the configured Quant Deviation exit region.

Typical Workflow

  1. Select two instruments with an economically or statistically meaningful relationship.

  2. Enter their exact broker symbol names as Symbol A and Symbol B.

  3. Attach the indicator to the chart of either selected instrument.

  4. Configure the calculation periods and Pair Alignment requirement.

  5. Wait for Quant Deviation to reach an entry region.

  6. Confirm that Pair Alignment satisfies the configured filter.

  7. Check the calculated direction of both pair legs.

  8. Compare the real price with the Pair-Implied Price.

  9. Monitor Quant Deviation for expansion or convergence toward the exit region.

  10. Apply independent position-sizing and risk-management rules to both positions.

Possible Applications

Pair Quant Arbitrage can be used for:

  • statistical pair analysis;

  • relative-value trading research;

  • identifying temporary divergence between related markets;

  • monitoring potential mean-reversion conditions;

  • analyzing both positively and negatively related instruments;

  • comparing the same pair from either chart perspective;

  • estimating dynamic equilibrium on the current symbol’s price scale;

  • supplying entry and exit states to custom Expert Advisors through indicator buffers.

Important Information

Pair relationships are dynamic and may weaken or break as market conditions change. A strong historical relationship does not guarantee future convergence.

Different trading sessions, missing bars, market gaps, liquidity conditions, and broker-specific price data may affect the calculations. For more consistent results, use instruments with compatible trading sessions and sufficient historical data.

Enter the exact symbol names used by your broker, including any prefixes or suffixes.

Pair Quant Arbitrage is an analytical indicator. It does not open, manage, or close positions. All signals describe relative conditions between two instruments and should not be interpreted as guaranteed market predictions.

Pair-Implied Price is a dynamic analytical reference, not a guaranteed target or trading recommendation.
