Sequential Countdown is a free MetaTrader 5 indicator for traders who use the 9-13 sequential count. It numbers the setup (1 to 9) and the countdown (1 to 13) on the chart, marks each perfected 9, and alerts you on every 9 and 13.
It counts closed bars only. A number never changes after its bar has closed, and nothing is drawn on the forming bar. It places no trades.
Quick start
- Attach it to any chart and timeframe. The numbers appear on the closed bars.
- Set Closed bars to count (default 1500) for how far back to count. Switch off Show setup numbers 1-8 to see only the 9s.
- Leave the alerts A completed 9 and A 13 on, then choose pop-up, sound, push or e-mail in the Alerts inputs.
The rules it uses
The 9-13 count has several published variants. This indicator uses one, stated in full:
- Buy setup: a close below the close 4 bars earlier. It starts at 1 only after a bar that closed above the close 4 bars before it. It then counts while each close stays below the close 4 bars earlier. Nine in a row completes it. The sell setup mirrors it.
- Perfected 9: for a buy, the low of bar 8 or 9 is at or below the lows of bars 6 and 7 (for a sell, highs). A 9 that is not perfected shows as 9'.
- Countdown: starts on the 9 itself. A buy countdown bar closes at or below the low 2 bars earlier. The bars do not need to be in a row. The 13 also needs a low at or below the close of countdown bar 8. A bar that meets only the first condition shows "+" and is not counted.
- Cancel and restart: a countdown stops when the opposite setup completes, or when price closes beyond the high (buy) or low (sell) of the setup that started it. A new setup in the same direction starts the countdown again.
On the chart
- Setup numbers under (buy) or above (sell) the bars; 9 in bold.
- Countdown numbers in their own colours; 13 in bold with an arrow.
- Buffers for other programs: setup count (10 = perfected 9), countdown number (-1 = deferred), 13 arrows.
- Alerts on the newest closed bar: pop-up, sound, push notification, e-mail.

Good to know
- How often: on 2023-2026 broker history, about 13 nines and 3 thirteens per symbol per month on H1. On D1 it is less than one 9 per month.
- A 9 or a 13 is a count, not a signal to buy or sell.

Trading involves risk. This indicator counts bars; it does not predict the market.
