Cleaner trend signals. Fewer false flips. Five Ehlers filters that separate real moves from market noise. No repaint.
Any pair, any market, any timeframe.
▬▬▬ THE PROBLEM ▬▬▬
Most moving averages smooth the price. They also smooth the signal. When markets chop, they flip direction repeatedly. When they trend, they lag the move.
The problem is not smoothness. The problem is noise. Random price fluctuations that look like signals but are not. You act on them, the market reverses, and you are on the wrong side.
Fabii Ehlers Trend Baseline uses five digital signal processing filters — techniques originally developed for electrical engineering, adapted by John Ehlers for financial markets — to separate signal from noise before the baseline calculates. The result reacts to real trend changes and ignores the rest.
▬▬▬ HOW IT WORKS ▬▬▬
A DSP filter sits at the centre. Around it, two adaptive deviation bands expand in volatile conditions and tighten during consolidation.
The trend flips bullish when price closes above the upper band. It flips bearish when price closes below the lower band. The baseline and candles change colour. A buy or sell arrow marks the bar.
When price pushes beyond the band in the direction of the active trend, the Momentum Confirmation Zone appears — direction and momentum aligned, visible in one glance.
Everything calculates on the closed bar. The signal does not change after the bar closes.
▬▬▬ FIVE DSP FILTERS ▬▬▬
- FRAMA (Fractal Adaptive MA) — Measures the fractal dimension of price movement to determine how trending or random the market is. Speeds up in trending conditions, slows down in noise. Each period setting produces a genuinely different baseline — slow at 20, significantly slower at 100.
- Super Smoother (Ehlers 2-pole) — A two-pole Butterworth filter that removes high-frequency noise while preserving trend direction with minimal lag. Ehlers' own reference filter for trend-following. Clean output, very few false signals in sideways markets.
- Low-Pass (Ehlers 2-pole) — A Gaussian-style two-pole low-pass filter. Heavier smoothing than Super Smoother for the same period. Useful when you want to track the dominant trend on longer timeframes and can accept slightly more lag.
- Laguerre Filter — A four-stage recursive filter whose response is controlled by the period setting. Short periods give fast, reactive output. Long periods produce a slow, extremely smooth baseline that only moves on sustained directional pressure.
- G-Channel (midline) — A fast recursive envelope that tracks the local maximum and minimum simultaneously, outputting their midpoint as the baseline. Adapts instantly to volatility shifts. Less smooth than the other filters but the fastest to respond to a genuine trend change.
▬▬▬ MOMENTUM CONFIRMATION ZONE ▬▬▬
A noise-filtered baseline still needs a confluence check. Direction confirmed by a DSP filter is not the same as momentum backing that direction right now.
When price closes beyond the deviation band in the direction of the active trend, the Momentum Confirmation Zone lights up. The filter shows the trend — the zone shows the push is real. Both on one chart, no second indicator.
▬▬▬ HOW TO USE IT ▬▬▬
- Attach the indicator to any chart. Default settings work on most pairs and timeframes.
- Select the filter that fits your approach: Super Smoother for general use, FRAMA for adaptive behaviour, G-Channel for the fastest reaction.
- Watch the baseline colour. Green — trend is bullish. Red — trend is bearish.
- Wait for a buy or sell arrow on bar close. That is the trend flip signal.
- When the Momentum Confirmation Zone appears in the same direction, momentum confirms. That is your entry filter.
▬▬▬ KEY FEATURES ▬▬▬
- Five DSP-filter baselines — FRAMA, Super Smoother, Low-Pass, Laguerre, G-Channel. One selector, same structure for each.
- Adaptive deviation bands — dotted lines that widen in volatile conditions and tighten in consolidation.
- Momentum Confirmation Zone — highlights the bars where direction and momentum align. No second indicator needed.
- Coloured candles — follow the active trend direction at any zoom level.
- Buy and sell arrows — appear on the bar where the trend flips. Anchored to the deviation band via ATR offset. EA-ready: buffers 19 (Buy) and 20 (Sell) accessible via iCustom.
- Laguerre period — period setting directly controls the filter response. Short period for fast signals, long period for slow and smooth.
- Alerts — trend-flip (Long / Short) and band-cross (Risk-On / Risk-Off). Popup, sound and push notification. Fires once per bar on close.
- Bar limit — display the last N bars only (default 500). Clean chart, unaffected calculation.
- Any pair, any timeframe, any market.
