I pesi del filtro ipergeometrico non decadono velocemente come le medie mobili ponderate esponenziali e lineari, ma più velocemente delle medie mobili uniformi. Per questo motivo, il comportamento di questo filtro è per molti versi simile al comportamento delle medie mobili. Tuttavia, ha diversi vantaggi.
