Is it defined by the number of trades per day, or by how quickly each trade is opened and closed? Some say "many trades," others say "short holding time." What's your take?

Hello friend :)
from my experience scalping is about the short holding time , and mainly scalpers use trailing stop not full tp , it is fast execution and tight trailing stops , entering the market get good amount of points 0.5:1 at least and get out (hit and run) , scalping has to have a high win rate because win reward ratio will be less than 1:1 , the number of trades is based on your strategy to get in and out of the markets but it is not a scalping rule.

I think my new EA is shifting from scalping to intraday, and I have no problem with that.

In my opinion scalping is about getting in and out quickly.

I would only add that...
"Quickly" is relative term in trading─meaning relative to the specific timeframe or chart structure used. I often say that an exit should be "faster" than an entry─meaning that less conditions/confirmations are imposed on the exit. Taking scalping as an example, a scalp of one bar on the M5 timeframe will necessarily have a shorter time duration than a scalp of one bar on the D1 timeframe. Either way, we can still say that the trader got in and got out quickly.

I don't know why many people think that to call an EA a "Scalper" it must take a lot of trades per day and this is a common misconception.

It is to get small bites instead of 1 large. You can get better if you catch the trend exactly
